Hello! I am Doug from 10 Minute Amiga retro Cast and I have been making a mostly-weekly show on the Amiga and Commodore 8 bit computers for over a year now. I thought I would make one centralized announcement thread for my new shows.

If you are not familiar with my channel, I create videos all about the Amiga computers, concentrating on the hardware and creative side as opposed to being a gaming channel. I do reviews on new Amiga hardware products and on older products from the eighties and nineties, too. I also try to do interviews with well known people from our industry, too. Come take a look!

You can find a list of all my past episodes here:

In this weeks video I have a very special guest! Eric from AmigaLove helps me dig up the truth about The Amiga in America and bury the rumors that our beloved machine was only popular in Europe. Join us!

@10MARC

Just a few examples of rather well known names involved in the day:

Perhaps people have heard of "Dalton books"?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B._Dalton#Software_Etc.
I don't see mention of this in the wiki, but they sold Amiga 500 computers in the Software Etc. stores. I should know. I bought one there. heh.

Anyone who knows cameras will know the name "B&H Photo" of New York City
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%26H_Photo
Major retailer of all things Amiga. Old timers will recall them. heh.

Usage?

How about Dave Gardy?
What about your roots in Fairfax County?
Guess what platforms they used.

Dick Van Dyke and his Newtek connections as a hobbyist certainly has more name recognition, but the above was a huge professional sales operation. I'm sure I still have one of the company demo tapes here somewhere. heh.

Dick Van Dyke story with mentions of both LW and Amiga

Take care,

I never knew that. The one in my area only sold Packard Bell 8088s.

A friend of mine bought his first A1000 at Donaldson's department store. I think they only sold them for a few months -- in the toy department!

B&H is still my first choice for new system builds.

How odd. My store also carried Apple II GS, a "competitor" for game play at the time.
My store was geared to games s/w obviously. Perhaps that's the difference?

And there was a huge magazine rack in the back which carried most all Amiga titles of the day.

Yes, probably. The store I went to was in a large mall, and carried mostly productivity software. They had very few games, and no magazines that I recall.

@10MARC

Thanks. Nice to see what is possible with the Amiga.
You also explain it all very well. Extract .lha, work with the shell, where install everything. Very well. That way I am still learning more.

In this weeks video we make lovely graphics in AmigaVision using JPEG images imported into the Amiga. Learn how to get modern photos imported into the Amiga to make beautiful HAM 6 images! I use only images from my yard.
