@hardwaretech

Yeah, that popped up on my feed this morning.
I found it very interesting, especially the mATX board with PCIe as an early desktop-class dev board.

@hardwaretech

Embedded means, cut down CPU’s with wrong FPU (and missing SIMD instruction set).

Open means, bunch of nonstandard chips, forks.

RISK means they removed important instructions making it hard for you to optimize, to save a few micro watt.

All this features our beloved PowerPC has already

And PowerPC is now also Open, and can be reimplemented in FPGA’s etc..

Risv-V they hope to enter desktop and server market, while Power and PowerPC is in server market, and was in desktop market, yeh you can argue it has not left, with the AmigaONE’s LOL

Without software Risc-V has no business being in the desktop market, unless they get Apple or Microsoft backing, I don’t see it happing.

@hardwaretech

I think new market will be the 3rd world, old market is Europa and USA, let’s see how can make good low-cost products, I think production will also have to shift to 3rd world, it’s See who will make less expensive products, think of it all raw materials dug out of Africa shipped to China. If it was instead produced in Africa, you can have huge saving in shipment cost. Technically its place on earth with lot of free solar power, its most carbon neutral place on earth.
