Kickstart 3.x is on two rather large chips. There are several variations, KS 3.0 and KS 3.1 (from Commodore), with different versions of the two. Amiga 1200's and Amiga 4000's are equipped with two sockets for the chips. My question is: Is there any difference between A1200 and A4000 Kickstart ROM's? Does it matter what computer you put the chips in? I know the A4000 tower has a special version, I'm not talking about the tower. Any info will be helpful.

I accidentally fried the Kickstarts in my A1200. The A1200 Kickstart sockets have extra pins for some reason. The proper installation is to move the chips back one row and leave 1 and 2 empty. I put them in wrong and now they aren't working. I might have actually ruined two Kickstart sets. Luckily Amiga Kickstarts are readily available on eBay and they don't cost a lot. I just have to be sure I'm getting the right ones.

@thinkchip

I suggest buying 3.1 for A1200 as A4000 version may not have code for pcmcia handling. A4000T version also doesn't have workbench.library (bad for running some stuff from floppies).

And You need two chips - each chip is 16bit so two chips give 32 bit access.
