@Samwel

I would guess that your estimate of about 1500 is pretty close, anyway I've had an XE G3, since spring of 2003, - picked it up in person at Compuquick. So far its been trouble free. Even the NIC works fine - at least without DMA enabled.

I have a G4-powered A1 for more than a year and it's been my main machine ever since the pre-released showed up!

I have got my µ-A1-C for 2 months now and played(and finished) Freespace
and I must say I never could imagine how succesfull the A1 would become.
Now we just need more good software(and games) for it.

@Kvasarnomad

if u liked freespace and its gameplay and like 2d shooters aswell then check out Crossfire 2 (2003) which is a mighty fine Amiga Gem of a game.

from the screenshots its looks rather limited but when u try it that whole thing goes away as its so cool and i where hooked after a few seconds.

Ain't I right that aw gets lots of visits from classic and emu-user,

I think that most of the retro-Amigans (classic Amiga and UAE) are members of Amiga.org, not this site. Just compare topics in the forums here and in the Amiga.org. You guys are blaming this site to be red BAF site. Now when people are talking about number of A1 owners you are suddenly saying that most of the guys are just Classic Amiga and UAE users. Isn't there a big contradiction when you think like that?

You know I am starting to be more happier everyday with OS4 second update. It cured a lot for me. Sure the USB did not work but that is related to other things. Yep I am damn happy with OS4 if I may say it so rude.

IMO AmigaOS4.x does still have a chance with Garry Hare possibly pushing projects and opportunities.

These are simply my thought and are probably wrong. but...
I don't think Garry Hare gives a rats behind about AOS4 beyond keeping the developers for DE happy.

I always had the impression that the developers forced Amiga inc into going along with continuing Amiga OS. If my thoughts are correct - that Amgia inc had no intention and certainly no money to continue AOS - it seems divine intervention has to come into play to make the possibility of OS4. I am not saying Hyperion are gods even if some might think they are.

Also, I am not saying that AOS is not part of Amigas plans now but that it is not the primary focus. It is simply a means to an end - software for imbedded devices.

[edit]

I own a G4 XE

The people who do know how many users there are refuse to say, but I think there are probably 3,000 AmigaOne and Pegasos users combined. And maybe 1,000 classic Amigans too.

Obviously we need to get this number up. I think the way to do it is to target the computer enthusiast market rather than the mainstream consumer market. Someone mentioned that AInc/Garry Hare might have plans to boost the platform but historically, Amiga Inc has never been a friend of AmigaOS, so I'm not hopeful that they will be of any help, but hopefully they won't try to actively prevent development of OS4 either. What we really need is two important essentials: a modern web browser, and an office package. From that point on there is no big reason AmigaOS can't start down the road to be a real alternative system.

@Samwel

A late reply, but i also got a µA1 and is mighty happy with it.

Sometimes, when working on the other "platform" i get headache and
general trouble focusing on what i am doing, then i just swap to the
A1 and everything is fine again. This has happened not once, but
alot of times. The same also happens when i use my A1200.

Perhaps we can market the Amiga as a health pill.

@Olle

My theory on this is based on the serial number of the A1's . With that theory we had at least 1600 A1 before the uA1's were sold. So now with the new uA1's I think we need to add a few to that. Perhaps we are over the 2000 mark, but I can't say for sure as I have an XE. Someone will have to let us know around about what the highest serial numbered uA1 is to get a more accurate picture.

P.S. it is not wise to give your serial number of your board out, so please just use an estimate to the nearist 100 or so.
