Ha!

Now that I have your attention, if they did create such a thing they obviously couldn't call it an Amiga as Amiga Inc own the name, but who would say it was an Amiga?

I know I would.

@nicholas

If I got the Amiga-feeling from that system, sure why not...
The passion behind the system and the "solution" how the OS works is what Amiga is for me more than a brandname.
Many people probably differs my view, but hey it's a free world =)

I got two Peg2's btw. go figure (it's not plainly for Linux)

@nicholas

Well, they created the 3DO, at least RJ Mical and Co. did, so that was similar to a next generation Amiga in many ways.

But the best chance of Carl and RJ creating a NG Amiga was with VISCorp in 1996. Unfortunately VIScorp screwed up and could not pony up the cash to buy Amiga at that time. After that Carl got pissed off and started Rebol.

So Gateway came in and screwed up even more. It's really a shame Escom went under because I think they were heading in the right direction. They had planned to have the PowerAmiga ready for 1997, second quarter, and the Walker ready in late 1996 (only prototypes were made before Escom died).

Not sure what RJ Mical is doing now, if anything. Perhaps he's retired.

He own Fathammer, which is also co-owned by one of FutureCrew (Remedy Entertainment) too.

He made the Atari Lynx too.

RJ Mical was Chief Software Architect from 2001-2002 at Fathammer Ltd. Just imagine if Fathammer would have owned the the Amiga brandname and released a product branded "Amiga-Forge" or something similar... Wow what kind of turmoil this may have created within certain parts of the community.

After his work on the original Amiga, (together with Dave Needle and others) RJ Mical designed the "Handy" for Epyx, which later was renamed "Lynx". Atari bought the rights to the Lynx and to Epyx's library of software titles. There was never a big fuss within the Atari community about the Lynx being an Atari branded product, so to some extend their community seems a little bit more sober than some parts of the Amiga community.

Of course Amiga is a *great* (and IMO valuable) brandname, but to me some seem too obessed with the brandname. Sure, you are free to stick an Amiga sticker on anything that runs UAE (or not), if you really want to.

If Carl and RJ did make a new Amiga compatible machine and OS, and it was exactly the same price as an official A1 with OS4 with the name.

Then I would buy the one from Carl and RJ, as to me it would be more "Amiga" than anything Amiga Inc or Hyperion could ever produce. It's a personal thing i think.

In combination with UAE nearly any platform can easily become "Amiga" compatible.

For me personally a product doesn't need to be "more Amiga" than anything else. If I love using a product or need a certain product I will likely buy it. It does not need to be Amiga branded, it does not need to be Amiga compatible, it does not need to be based on AmigaOS source codes, it even doesn't need to be Amiga-like. Me loving to use or me needing a certain product is enough.

Lots of AW members love using AmigaOS4 on their classic and AmigaOne computers. Many view the brandname and legacy as a bonus.

Personally I believe I never was too zealous about brandnames and companies in general. For instance I owned a Coleco Vision next to a Vectrex, a ZX spectrum next to a C64 and I owned an AtariST next to an Amiga 2000.

Of course I am a hobby Amiga enthusiast (as I like the legacy) and I *prefer* new systems to have an Amiga-like approach (at least with regard to the things I liked about AmigaOS, such as features & behaviour), but I am also open to new or alternative approaches.

Well, 3DO is quite interesting since it has an operating system that is according to RJ Mical "AmigaOS done right". I couldnt find more details about 3DO but could be interesting to know what kind of bits it had. As it seems he was very proud of it.
