Yes, most likely. Making a comprehensive non-incremential update would make the thing too big.

Sorry 'bout that, but it's inevitable.

No. You can simply install Update 3 over the existing installation.

@Megatron2

I can only guess what Update 3 will consist of. These things might be:

*Warp3D 4 PPC-OS4 native version with 3D-drivers for Radeon 7x00/Vodoo 3-5
*WarpOS 5-emulation
*Petunia JIT 68k emulation
*Bugfixes and more

@Rogue

I was advised that if my system was stable I did not need to install the UpDate2. Now that UpDate3 is coming out will I need to install UpDate2 to install Update3?

Sorry if I am completely brain dead here, but the important part of the question is can I skip UpDate2?
Further is Update3 firmware in part. I am isolated and the thought of firmware makes me nervous.

I appreciate the heads up very much. It's nice to have the time to make proper backups etc. and make plans to drive to Ottawa if necessary.

Thanks for all the time and energy you and the team have put into this project,
John Paul

From what was said above, update3 will NOT be inclusive of the content from update 2, so in other words, it would probably be best to apply the updates sequentially in order to ensure every file is the most recent possible.

Bear in mind, that some of the files updated in update 3 may very well expect files with versions from update2....so I'd suggest doing this unless for some reason (unlikely as mentioned by Rogue's post we get an all inclusive update)..

*Better 750GX support - so your µA1-C will perform better.
*Updated SDK with fix of the infamous C++ filestreams bug.
*PPC native xadmaster.library for faster decompression.
*Fixed eth3com.device - no more network dropouts.
*Updated SmartFileSystem.
*Updated FastFileSystem.
*More
*Your imagination here.

@Helgis

I heard that Petunia JIT will be in the final release, not in the update. I'll be happy if UDMA for the µA1 can be turned on.

I thought I did answer that already. No, you cannot skip Update 2. You should have installed update 2 anyway. Any warning like "if your system is stable" (if it comes from me) always aims at installing firmware updates.

No, Update 3 will be system components only, no firmware update. A firmware update may come laster as well, though, to cope with a few remaining issues in early startup.

@sundown

That is correct, at least not in this update.

Other than that, I am not going to tell what is in the update - I don't want to spoil the fun for all of you of makin up lists yourselves

But I think most of you will be happy with it.

Stupid question:

Do we need to update the uBoot to the March '05 release in order to install Update 3?

@All

So most of the mentioned things will be in the Update 3, except the Petunia JIT 68k emulation which will be in the final version? I'm glad to hear that performance for the uA1 will be a lot better with Update 3, and fixed problems with the 750GX support and hopefully fully UDMA-functions for the uA1! Glad that i did order the uA1-c! I'm sure i'm in for a lot of great surprises here!

I will of course use the Sillicon Image 0680 UDMA133 IDE PCI-controller in the new uA1-c, for even better performance

Wow, this is great!

@All

I do see now completely that the Update 3 brings an almost finish AmigaOS 4.0, and seeing only small parts missing for making the OS4.0 a fully final product at the end.

This is just brilliant! It has gone around 6 years of developing the PPC-native AmigaOS 4.0, and now only some small parts are missing for making OS4.0 into a final version ready for release to the public, even bundled along with AmigaOnes!

Rogue said: Archive, most likely.

That would be the best. ADSL download and the code to go to Hyperions site.
No cd burning etc. The firmware has been updated so I (we) shall be hearing from You shortly. Not to hurry too much: we dislike the Greapers... ;)

.lha archive please!

Do Your Great work, I'm doing mine;)

Yes, thats how it must be done.

A little OT, but what's that about people archiving stuff twice ?
Like a Tar archive Gz'ed...
'blablabla.tar.gz' ?? Or was it the otherway around ?

Anyone any explanation about this

Cheers,

Martin
