@Atheist

i have done a research on things like this for years , only about 10% of the users actually buy "something".

ie.. divide the community in 2 parts , serious (non gamers) and gamers/players (them who do most things.)

if a game gets released 10% of the gamers "might buy" and then a very tiny fraction of the "serious" guys buy.

If a serious tool gets released 10% of the non gamers buys it and uses it , the players/gamers buys it for supporting the developers or because it might fit their budget and maybe most of all "might" use it in the future.

the rest of the lot (+/- 80%) might buy the thing later or never.

(its like this on other formats aswell but sadly thoose have alot more users.)

ps:i know of people who still use demoversions of tools and games because thoose are enough for thoose needs and they aint planning on buying the full version anytime either.

ppppst: i hope we can raise it to atleast 50% now in the start , it would really jumpstart everything and attracting developers aswell.

edit:forgot to say that this is "initial release figures and not "over time"

Yes ! Exactly ! If we can show other developers that we ARE prepared to shell out cash for new apps, that might atract them ! And more developers mean more apps, more apps might atract more users who in turn might buy more apps....

Who knows

Cheers,

Martin

@Metalheart

till today's date we have had 1 commerical thing released for os4 and that's AE4 , and we got Hollywood OS4 aswell now (ported from classic) and theese 2 might be selling good (i hope so atleast) but the thing is we are still to early to start judging the users/devs but lets say if every user actually bought papyrus /sbasepro or lets say a new highend os4 only game then that game would be an instant hit in terms of money atleast and most of all enough to attract others to restart their abandoned projects or boost them with more developers/time etc..

it's a chicken and egg situation indeed but it rely more on the "market" than on the developer right now i think.

i recall the Hollywood os4 news item had quite a few "orders" (as in alot) in it and there was more later on too, imo such things is great to see and most of all if they are honest answers/input.

i encourage everyone to jump into papyrus and others who dare to try the market with commerical development but then again i have never tried papyrus and well a good seller always tests something before they try to sell it...right ?

@Toaks

I agree with your sentiment entirely! However if all who voted positively in the recent Papyrus poll place a pre-order we should have no troublit would be a good start!

@Samwel

I have bought the version for Amiga OS 68k.
It doesn't run under AOS4.
After 3 update files I can see the main window of Papyrus, but the A1 crashes. (Hardreset button)
Since AOS 4 update 3 Papyrus only crashes no need to do a hardreset.

I was tld by Mr garlich that those who bought 68k version don't need to pay for version AOS4.

Therfor I voted NO

@Samwel

I had to vote 'no' I'm affraid as I don't presently have the funds to purchase it (currently unemployed, once my exams are done it's find a job and work all summer mode!).

Once I have enough money though I will be buying Papyrus as it looks like a really good bit of software and it'll keep me going until open office!

Here's hoping I find a job!

Update:

I've just tried the demo version on Windows, hey, it's FAAAST !, I thought for a moment I was sat at my A1. If the program is as responsive as that, then I wil certainly be getting myself an OS4 version. (Might even buy the Windows version as well to make documents more portable between the two OS's)

MS word takes 5 seconds just to open on this 2.6Ghz laptop, Papyrus takes, erm, must have blinked, sorry, could not count that fast

End of month order for sure now !

@AmigaOneProductions

As I wrote on the news thread.. The preorder phase will probably go on
for several weeks atleast.
The 68k and MorphOS versions had their preorder phase going on for
several months I believe.

They say at least 60 preorders to make it happen. I will wait 59 preorders then I will make mine and become a real Amiga hero.

EDIT

I read that before you edited it. I'll probably order it in that case. I currently have Wordworth (which I use occasionally, but can't really do without) and Pagestream (which don't use much, but is occasionally handy - I'm waiting for the OS4 version which I ordered ages ago). If I get Papyrus it will probably replace Wordworth, and maybe TurboCalc if the spreadsheet functions are any good.
