hi,

its been a while since I was posting, between work and the family not had much time to read the forums apart from using my amiga.

so I will open up to invitation again to all you cool programmers out there open for the challenge.

since this last posting about the above subject I've now managed not only to acquire the fly.exe (source code) but now also have the tools that are used to develop the sims, so any that wishes please get in touch.

as some of you have mentioned, just by porting the fly.exe it would give use hundreds of flight sims to play.

TFX was relased by Ocean and developed by DID, but since they both have disappered does anyone know who owns the rights so we can ask for the source code to port as well.

@adrianebrown

After TFX was released in it's not so stable condition on CUAmiga (October 97, Super CD Rom #15) we had a couple of updates to the executable file here.

Whether or not this chap (Charlie Wallace?) still has the source code I don't know but it might be a nice place to start. He used to work for DID & worked on both TFX & Inferno as well as a couple of other things. And if he does still have it, lets just hope he can do something [else] with it.

Actually, that link has some interesting stuff on it although it hasn't been updated in a good while. He was also at Team 17 too.

FuZion.

Bring it on! Not a coder myself but talented folk out there may be able to do the job

I was never even aware of this! Is it available on Aminet?

@utri007

I'd rather see Flightgear ported, it looks nicer.

@sicky

I would have to agree with everyones comments:

the list i would like to see ported

1) X-Plane - Civil Flight Sim like Microsoft Flight Simulator
2) Flight Gear - Open Source Civil Flight Sim as above
3) Flight Sim Toolkit - Flight Sim a basic sim toolkit but gives the ability to produce combat sims etc or anything you wish the imagination is enormous..
4) TFX - The best Comabt Sim of all times.
5) Falcon 4.0 - Another Comabt Sim and the only best one on the PC computer today.

I will also need top-up www.flightsimtoolkit.co.uk bandwidth to enable the site again oooppps forgot it was close to running out.www.flightsimtoolkit.co.uk

You and many others (the more chance of getting something done) I hope!

I have played this on my Mac, rather good with lots of scenery extras available.

Quote:
2) Flight Gear - Open Source Civil Flight Sim as above

Don't mind civil flight sims but prefer combat (especially WW2) flight sims.

3) Flight Sim Toolkit - Flight Sim a basic sim toolkit but gives the ability to produce combat sims etc or anything you wish the imagination is enormous..

That would be amazing if it could be ported, but what's the chances for our humble platform?

Quote:
4) TFX - The best Comabt Sim of all times.

I loved this, played it as best as I could on my 060 based Amiga, but it did have lots of bugs!

5) Falcon 4.0 - Another Comabt Sim and the only best one on the PC computer today.

Falcon 4.0 is by far the best modern jet combat flight sim, I have it on my (cough) PC and even had it for my old G3 (OS9) Mac. There has been a new release of this flight sim I believe, so wonder what the chances are of getting Falcon 4.0 ported? The fact that it has already been ported to run on PPC (Apple Mac) I would suggest making it the most likely to be ported to run on PPC Amigas?

@amipal

AFAIK, it was not made available other than on the CD. It might have also been on a couple of CD's following this one, but I couldn't be certain. You could speak to these guys to see if they still have one of the CD's around (Near the bottom).

What a typo! Surely you meant Janes F15!

(Actually TFX is still quite a lot of fun...thank goodness for DosBox!)

I think there's no point in trying to port TFX even if the sources where available.
It's uses AGA chipset if I remember correctly. Also I would guess alot of 68k asm
to speed things up. So it would be quite hard work to get it working on a OS4 natively.

@Samwel

I was under the impression that was the case too.

@theDungeonDelver

How well does it run under DosBox?

@sicky

That's the one yeah.

@Santa

Can I have a new bike for XMas?

The last time I gave it a whirl (which admittedly was a year ago) it went pretty well. The sound was a little grainy but I can't recall if that was a TFX problem or a DOSBox problem.

@adrianebrown

I'm curious about the sources ? assembler / C or what?

I would like to see this game for classic migas it might work well with 68k amigas and look better than tfx.
