| Is there a tool for OS3.9 that converts FFS to SFS partitions? _________________

| Only if they're separate partitions, then use a program called 'copy' _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

| There is not a tool to convert from one to the other no. They are different FileSystems, and the new one (SFS) would need to be written into the RDB and that partition then formatted. It isn't like going from FAT16 to NTFS whereby once can be converted to the other retaining the data on the partiton. _________________ Test sig (new) |

| As a matter of interest, when AmiFileSafe (AFS) first came out (years ago) it had a tool to convert an FFS partition (containing data) into an AFS one without reformatting it. It was called 'FFS2AFS' and I used it successfully, retaining all my data.
As you may know, AFS was eventually remarketed as Professional File System (PFS).

| Any one hear any rumblings about PFS3 being ported to OS4? I have asked in the past if PFS3 worked under OS4, and it was reported that a few beta testers were using it in it's original form (ie. 68k), not to mention that it was also stated that something like a file system shouldn't be an issue since by the time the OS gets to caring about a file system, it's already in OS4 mode and emulating rather than REQUIRING a PPC native version.
Personally, I love PFS3. While SFS might be enough for some, I like the atomic commit of PFS3, as well as other features. I certainly don't mind paying an upgrade fee for a PFS3 PPC native version (Hint hint), but I was wondering if anyone heard of such a thing on the way?

Hello! It looks like you haven't come across an application for your needs yet. However, plenty of Software Foundation (SFS) resources are available online at Aminet. Best wishes in finding what you need there! Cheers again from WaveGuide on October 6th, 2003. |
