Is there a web site where I can create an account, and upload pictures to, for free?

I'd like to upload pictures of things like my custom-painted EZ tower, and Amiga-generated VHS inlays, which I can then link to here.

I used to have a Yahoo account with a brief case which I could upload pics to, but Yahoo won't let their members link such files to other sites.

I guess "Is there such a site?" is a silly question. Instead, which ones are free, and which are the best?

Try Flickr - they have a free account which allows something like 20MB of uploaded pictures for free each month; there's also a great little (well, not so little any more!) community around it all, where you can search for similar photos, comment on others, join groups of like minded photographers, etc.

But for basic image hosting it's pretty much ideal...

I tend to use http://www.photobucket.com
It automatically generates any website code you want, so its easy to post links to images on forums.

http://imageshack.us/ is your friend. You don't even need an account. Just upload an image and copy/paste the resulting url somewhere safe.

Yup, it's pictures of the Lakeview area in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. 10 feet of water at my place -- the smell was out of this world.

It's not for pictures but http://www.mytrashmail.com is too good not to be mentionned:

Imageshack and Photobucket are used quite heavily in the Fark photoshop contests - and you frequently see messages that the image is unavailable due to server problems...

Hey man, thanks for the concern -- things are slowly getting back to normal with me. Thankfully I still have a job, so I'm not as badly off as some other people. Yeah, the corrosion was unbelievable -- you have to see my weight lifting set!

That's a very good quality image of the Golden Condor - was it taken from a DVD? Stills taken from video (or video files) tend to have artefacts or distortion, but that looks really crisp!

Sounds nasty (not to mention traumatic!) - I'd hate to see what that water would have done to a person! :shock:
Hope you manage to get back on your feet again soon... although I suspect that it will take quite a time for everything to even remotely return to normal
