Some of you may remember me from a while back. I was interested in building an A1 system (uA1c), but had difficults finding a vendor that had some in stock. The boards were going for around $800 at the time. I decided to wait a year and see if prices/availability got better (and perhaps AOS 4.0 would be a bit more seasoned as well)...Now I see at Software Hut that the same boards are going for $975!! (and, of course, there are none available)

I still have my empty mini-ITX case waiting...but at this rate, I might as well give up! :(

Troika's Amy '05 will be out sooner than later so I would prepare your case for that. As far as anyone knows, there will not be any A1's available again, but other solutions are being researched. The Amy board is the closest to completion so if you were a betting man, put all your chips on Amy.

Dang it! Now I guess I'm going to have to spend the day pouring through this forum to find out what the deal is, why the A1 is dead, etc. :)

I thought the ACK thingy had already gone into production, I seem to remember some news along those lines.

Hmmm, "flex ATX"? Suppose my mini-ITX case is now destined for the scrap heap (or Ebay)...

Hopefully the new hardware will not be as ridiculously priced like the A1 was. The Amiga needs fresh meat but that aint going to happen when the hardware is too damn expensive.

Well, this is a bit disappointing. Looks like I need to go away for ANOTHER year and then see what is available... :)

@mavherzog

I would say 3 to 6 Months before we see new Hardware !...

// Me just guessing and hoping...

In the meatime, find an Amiga User Group close to you to see AOS4 in action. Believe me, you won't regret it. It's what motivated me to get one (BB1), and help me to convince my wife to let me get one (BB2). Then I managed to buy 1 Second-Hand (well two to be exact, but one has a dead cpu...).

Sometimes, there are one (mainly A1SE and A1XE) for sell here in the classified section...

That's a bad move. You should have bought it when it was available
in December 2004-January 2005...

Waiting for cheaper, and better hardware to materalize may take years.
I'd sell that case...

@Kotler

Had I bought one when it was available, I'd now have a motherboard that has been abandoned... How's that a bad move? :)

(anyway, I DID try to buy one. I went back and forth with a vendor in Canada(recommended here) that, supposely, had them available. Wanted me to e-mail him the order, which I agreed to, but never got me his correct GPG key.) :(

ACK PowerVixxen will be available sooner.

And AmigaOne line isn't death yet.

Well, strictly speaking it should be shipping to the retailers now.

That's highly debatable.

Just logical things really. No finished OS and this, along with Eyetech's limited marketing made the board unprofitable for them to continue.

Now that OS4 is practically done there is no hardware. Just unfortunate timing really.

We are trying to stay positive for new hardware (Amy '05) and the PowerVixen for the A1200 - but there are no firm release dates and no-one has actually seen working boards demoed - so you may be in for a longish wait.

Yes it is from an availability point of view. You cannot buy new hardware and it seems unlikely that Eyetech will make any new boards.

Perhaps you could say it was in 'hibernation'.

@polka.

well it seems to NOT be shipping to dealers. I contacted my local dealer to try to find something out about the PowerVixen, but my local dealer didn't know if it existed yet, nor did he know when he would get it, or what it would cost. This dealer is a wellknown reputable dealer so I see no reason as to why ACK wouldn't wanna contact them, coclusion; PowerVixen is still some miles away.... :/ I can be wrong, infact I hope I am wrong.

AW peeps, it would be cool if you wrote a letter to your local dealer and asked them when they will start selling the PowerVixen and report the result here.

I see no reason to start selling the PowerVixen before the final release of AmigaOS 4.0 as before that we won't have anything to run on it, right?....

I am also wondering why there is no announcement yet. Adam even said that we should "expect an announcment shortly" for the A1 CPU modules. He also said that the PV has "gone to production", so I see no reason why we don't hear anything about it. Is anybody able to contact him or give us an update? Gurumeditation?

Just as a reminder:

All posted by ackcontrols:
[21:57:04] Regarding CPU modules for the A1 boards....expect an anouncement shortly.
[21:58:40] The prototype 7447A CPU modules are being thoroughly tested on the XE and MicroA1s.
[21:59:10] The first production run will include a lower cost 867MHz 7447A as well as a higher end unit.
[22:22:53] The PowerVixxen LT has gone to production, docs are being polished up.
[22:25:03] Fransexy: I expect by the time everything is in place, some time towards the end of January.

Would be interesting to know which design he is speaking about.

@Giovanni

The first spec was referring to the PV, that's for sure. I am a bit worried that he's working on "many designs at the same time" since I would just be happy if only ONE of them will be delivered on time.
Was it only me or were you also surprised by the announcement that the PV is already in production? Adam knows the Amiga scene and how critical we became over the time regarding release dates of hardware (BoXer, Merlancia, ...) and software (OS4, ...).
I can't believe that he would actually lie and say that the PV is in production when it's not.
