@DWolfman

Just remembered, it does show up in USB Inspector, by the way. Just can't get AmigaInput to give me the option to choose the USB controller.

@Toaks

OK, I've copied in the crash log. This only happens if I put kgrach's prefs file in there and open AmigaInput. If I tell the GR to ignore the DSI errors, then the main screen will load and does show USB as an option (I had not tried the ignore option before). Thing is it is REALLY unstable at that point. I can mostly click around and do things with it, but I can't do either Save or Use without AmigaInput taking down the whole system (a series of 0100000F recoverable alerts, and then either an ISI crash or complete hang of the system). Any of the crashes that happen after trying to save or use I cannot save off the crash log from, as the system each time has died completely before I can get the log file saved out. Also, if I click on Test/Calibrate, it seems to hang AmigaInput and some parts of Workbench without a crash.

Oh, system info:
A1XE G4, running at 1 GHz (it's been stable for more than a year and runs cool with the heatsink setup I have), 512 MB RAM, Radeon 7000 32 MB AGP card, Soundblaster 16 (same chip as the SB128). I did an update install of Update 4 over my existing Update 3 installation, which I had updated from 1 and 2 as well (I would have to make some room on a hard drive to try a fresh install).

Here's the crash log from the DSI error:

Crash log for task "AmigaInput"
Generated by GrimReaper 51.20
Crash occured in module newlib.library at address 0x703CDD64

PEB just figured out my issue through a couple PMs!

I had removed the PCI files from Libs:AmigaInput. Put them back and no more crashes.

I want to say I removed them because of something I read in the forums here, but I suppose I shouldn't have.

Anyway, it's working now and I've saved my prefs. Haven't actually tried it in a game yet, though.

@DWolfman

Well, helping you fix it was the least I could do---seeing that it was probably my fault that you had the problem in the first place.

In another thread, I mentioned that removing those files helped me to load one of my favorite games (FloboPuyo), which was crashing otherwise. But ever since Toaks uploaded it again to OS4 Depot, no more problems.

If you want to do without the PCI files, you could still remove them---just be sure to uncheck (deselect) PCI from the "Available Interfaces" in AmigaInput Prefs. (The problem was that PCI was still checked when you deleted those files, so it was going crazy trying to find them.)

Sorry for messing you up to begin with.

There is a hat option or something like that ?

I have an USB digital gamepad and all the ten buttons are recognized but I can't calibrate the directional cross...

Someone have the same problem ?

@all

The other day I thought something was wrong, as I didn't notice until way later after PEB got me fixed that it hadn't saved the prefs. I went back and did it again, but this time remembered to turn off the save icons setting. Now it's saved.

But I don't think I've got a game that will use it right now. I have Power Manga, Formido, and a couple others, but none of those seem to use the joystick.

Ah well, at least it was able to work with AmigaInput, and the calibration worked perfectly.

@PEB

So I would say that it might be a good idea to uncheck the USB entry in AmigaInput before I go to unhook the gamepad? Sounds like there could be issues later if I have to do that and I still have it checked in there.

@DWolfman

You shouldn't have to uncheck USB in AmigaInput just to unplug your gamepad (though there do seem to be some issues when you do unplug it). As long as you don't delete any drivers that AmigaInput looks for, you should be fine.

As to games that you can try with your gamepad:
Download PacMan05 and SuperTux, and try them out (both work well here).

I STILL haven't been able to get the USB option to even show up in AmigaInput. I've tried deleting the files from ENV:AmigaInput and ENVARC:AmigaInput, and putting Krach's prefs file in ENVARC:AmigaInput and rebooting (both warm/soft and cold/hard). No luck. I've tried it without his prefs file but with the same results.

I noticed that the version number from the usb driver is different than the version for the keyboard and mouse drivers. Would that make any difference?

Even if my USB joystick adapter doesn't work I should at least see a "Generic_usb" option in AmigaInput, right?

Or am I just doing something wrong?

@RacerX

No you need a USB joystick plugged in first.
if you plug in the joystick and USB inspector recongizes it as a HID device then Amigainput will bring up the USB interface

@RacerX

Does it show in USBInspector?
If not then it will not show in AmigaInput either. First get the whole USB
sysem to find it then fix AmigaInput.

@kgrach @Samwel

Just as I was about to say it recognised the Adapter but not the joystick, I happened to try AmigaInput again and this time it worked! The only thing I did differently this time was turn on the 'analog' light on the joystick.

Unfortunatly, when I clicked 'Calibrate' it crashed, and USB doesn't seem to work after a soft/warm reboot. Anyway, I'm making progress!

Thanks!

Did you ever get your PS2-USB adaptor working? Bought one today in Maplins. The device shows up via USBInspector as:
Quote:
Type: Interface
Product: Rockfire PSX/USB Bridge
Vendor: Padix Co. Ltd.
Serial no.: < unspecified >
Class: Human Interface Device
Subclass: 0
Driver: hid.usbfd

I've copied kgrach's prefs to ENV-Archive, and the USB interface shows up, but upon pressing Tes/Calibrate Unit, I get an error requestor:
Quote:
This AmigaInput unit is not configurable

Cannot open AmigaInput driver mod libs:AmigaInput/PCI_SoundCardHornet.driver

The file is in the specified directory. Any ideas?

You are trying to calibrate the selected unit which on your system is PCI_SoundCardHornet and your PS2-USB is not connected to your SoundCard Joyport am I wrong ?
Select first the unit you want to calibrate ; for you a unit about USB which you have appeared in the list.

I have Sidewinder forcefeedback (not regoniced), sidewinder pad (not recogniced) and Gravis Blackhawk (recogniced). But Gravis axis are wrong, when I push stick crosshair goes left, if I pull stick it goes right, if pushed left it goes up and right down, throttle wheel work right and buttons get recogniced. In freespace crosshair goes to different direction than I whirl stick so its not in amigainput only. And assigning to lowlevel port don't work in wipeout.
