Grumble. A1 wouldn't boot up this evening. Measured in circuit CR2032. It was down to 1.4volts. Popped it out. Stuck in the new one I now ALWAYS keep handy (even took it to the club meeting last night). Booted right up.
Last replacement was Feb 6, 2006. I only got 43 days service out of that one. I sure hope it was a fluke. My $1/month estimate may be out-the-window.
I also wish the internal circuit lay out was public information so I had a better idea about how to proceed. I am guessing that *something* inside is getting progessively worse. I am v.e.r.y reluctant to part with this otherwise stable, working AmigaOne ... until new hardware is available so I have a backup if (and sadly, probably when) something worse befalls the computer when I ship it off to who knows where for attempts at repair. Our Amiga club has not had good luck sending off Amigas for repair. They come back not working.. ostensibly because of poor handling by return transportation.

| I experienced a different low CR2032 voltage symptom.
My AmigaOne began gaining time immediately upon being turned on. It seemed to properly measure the passage of time while OFF, but upon being turned on it would run at 120%.
I replaced the battery (it had been 1 month after all..) and that symptom disappeared.

Does a PC battery works in the A1? I have plenty of these. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |

Only the CR2032 3 volt lithium cell works.
Most backup circuts I've seen use a 3.6 volt rechargable nicad battery. They don't make a 3.6V lithium cell, but if they did, I'd bet it would have been used. Ok, thats my theory! _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

Do you have any PCI cards installed? sounds like a funny question I know. there is a voltage leak somewhere in the A1 design Seems certain PCI cards drain the clock battery when the AMIGA IS TURNED OFF. I have seen certain Cmedia sounds cards kill the battery in no time. Never had time to track down the problem.

Was just scanning some of our old threads on battery issues. Seems there were multiple instances (solved) of poorly soldered battery holders on XEs as well.

I have a similar problem that only began to occur recently, after two years of running fine.
I have a Micro AmigaOne and over the past couple of months I have noticed that whenever I unplug the power supply and plug it back in, I get the same behaviour. ie. A blank screen, the HD light permanently on and no booting.
The only way to fix it is to pop the battery out and leave it out for about five minutes. Then when I put it back in the system works again. Sometimes I will have to disconnect the IDE devices as well. Odd that it only started happening after two years, and changing the battery made no difference.
The worst part is that my previously good looking Amiga now sits in a state of partial dismemberment, with no case and the DVD drive and hard drive balanced on top of it, because if I put it all back together (6 screws) then I will inevitably have to pull it all apart again to make it boot!

Replace the little watch battery |
Nasty experience! This hasn't happened to me - yet! One question when the battery dies and you replace with a new one does the AmigaOne automatically reboot with all the previous uboot settings or do you have to re-configure the system again?
