Slight off-topic. In December, 2005 my post #19 on the need for using mixer here. Is this info still valid? Is mixer no longer needed to solve the volumn issue with PlayCD?
@Xenic
There were two issues with mixer, both user related, so I brought up the topic, just in case. One was caused by mixing non-current versions of AHI and Mixer. The second was the issue I raised above with PlayCD. I realize this does not apply to your case. The other possibilities that spring to mind:
Are you using wav.datatype V51.6 from the update#4 ISO? Where/how is your audio hooked up? Miniplug into green jack on front, or...

Problem solved after a lot of file swapping. The sound datatype environmental variable ENVARC:classes/datatypes/sound/AHI was set to unit 1. Setting it to Unit 0 fixed my problem. However, I don't see why datatype sound shouldn't work right with Unit 1. It did in earlier versions of OS4 and in OS3.5/3.9.
I set the Unit to 1 when I was troubleshooting my datatype sound distortion problem that surfaced when I first updated to OS4pre4. That turned out to be some sort of conflict with the new USB files. That can be solved by replacing the files in DEVS:USB with the OS4pre3 files or by disconnection the USB mouse and using a PS2 mouse (A solution found by another user with the same problem).
Apparently, datatypes needs to be set to use AHI Unit 0 for simultaneous sound play to work properly when using music programs.
Thanks to everyone for their help. _________________ X1000 with 2GB memory & OS4.1FE |

PlayCD doesn't use AHI, well theoratically it could get the audio data through IDE and play it through AHI, but I haven't seen that happening yet. To control the CD-in volume, you need Mixer indeed, but that's only for that case. If you don't use PlayCD, you can use AHI without Mixer, like you could before it was ever released. Actually, I never use Mixer at all. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |
