More recent Amy'05 layout

Nice layout --- except that maybe, just maybe, it's not such a great idea to have the voltage regulators so far away from the CPU, as well as the ATX connector. :)

But seriously --- if that's the level they have progressed to by now (or "more recently"), then you might as well call it AmyND, for "AmyNextDecade".

Even assuming these ARE all the parts needed (and this screenshot looks to be very short on small caps and resistors), then there is a lot of work ahead (a) connecting them in the circuit diagram, (b) routing the connections on the actual board, (c) rerouting it because you realise the previous routing had problems, (d) having a few prototype PCBs made, (e) having those PCBs loaded somewhere (for all the bravado of Rogue's statement, you simply cannot load this stuff by hand --- how would you do that for BGA cases?).

THEN you are at the point where you (after a lot of careful measuring for shorts) can apply power for the first time. Which will result in something between nothing on one end of the scale, and sparks, smoke and flames on the other. Weeks, months later, you will find yourself with a board with traces cut, chip pins being bent up, small wires going everywhere, and maybe, just maybe, your board will do something, anything.

At which point you restart the process at "rerouting", and you get to do the whole loop a few times before the thing even boots. THEN you can start looking for the more subtle bugs....

@Interesting

Maybe they should give it out in a better way, then. Not all of us are TAM subscribers.

In current situation we just can't reject any hardware, even if it don't conform to today's standards. Besides, keep in mind that not everybody can afford a state of the art MB which costs a fortune.

How about that then:
http://msaros.blogspot.com/2006/02/cheap-ppc-alternative.html?

The cpu is slower than the one in Amy05, but OTOH the northbridge is exactly the same :)

Missing what? I don't see anything in that article that hasn't already been talked about elsewhere. Front and back pictures of the ram packaging? Hmm, maybe that's what you mean. In answer to the question about having an AOS4 license, they do say they contacted the parties concerned; they don't say what the results were, nor have they since, as far as I know. Care to help out the amusing Amiga community on this point?

What makes you think no one saved a copy, however?

Shrug, unless Amy'05 specs have changed, and now has onboard video, I'd say it's much more likely to be either a mockup or a different/other company's product. Even with a 90* PCI adapter, I'm not sure it'd fit in that case without onboard video...

@SlayeR__

Do you really think I would be this obnoxious without trying to mail them first? I have mailed them a couple of times, I haven't even gotten a response saying they got my mail in the first place.

Hmm, then my guesstimate of a product release around the beginning of 2007 even seems to be a quite optimistic one.

Spare us your doomsday predictions, the picture is by no means a status report. It could be many months old for what we know. No need to start crying "wolf" yet, now is it?

Yes, that is basically what umisef was referring to with "more recently".
The layout is probably (hopefully!) in fact "more recent" than the provisional Dpaint drawing, but it still can be some months old.

You can also try to make it look better if you always say that the layout you post is "not the latest version" or "just a provisional sketch" when it is in fact the most recent one that you have. I can't see any reason why one would always upload an old screenshot instead a recent one.

sorry, gotta butt in without reading the whole thread through ()
but all this talk of liars got me thinking. my results:

WMD, no new taxes, "she means nothing to me" and "I'm not going to put Rohypnol in your drink" are the sorts of lies to be concerned about, not 'production runs in xxx month'. get a grip guys (and gals) !!

I just wonder why everybody think they have digged some yet unpublished image. The link to this "new layout" is in the "All about Amy" section of Troika's site. Here is a quote from the www:

Quote:
Early "Prometheus" Block diagram. Next, In these screen grabs 1 & 2 , Project "Prometheus" is taking shape. They continue to show the progress that takes place during parts placement in the layout process.

Screen grabs 1 & 2 are the "new layout". All this is titled "Amy...the early days". So, what's so new about it?

@polka.

Whatever. A screenshot of a MB design, regardless of new or old, is still not a progress report. It just shows the design, period. I'm sure Eyetech could post a similar screenshot of the A1 design, would that show that Eyetech are still in the design process and that there are "decades" until it will be released? Of course not, it was quite some time ago that the A1 was made available and sold to end-users. So again, this screenshot tells us exactly nothing about their current status.
