Does anyone know what are the minimum hardware requirements (and software)
to get the Exult to work ?

How about the graphics software, then ?

Where can I get the latest ("stable..?) version of Exult for Amiga ?
How about the Midi software and sound packs ?

Should the Exult for Amiga work with Ultima Collection's version of Ultima 7 ?
I don't have the "original" version of Ultima7, only the Ultima Collection cdrom which has also the Black Gate and Serpent Isle...?!

Any help appreciated

@macce2
Ask EAB.ABIME.NET for Exult/Ultima 7 related, i think you can get the required packages there also.

@macce2

can't answer the questions about Exult specs but..

YES. Ultima Collection's versions work perfectly. (I got the collection with Ultima IX Dragon Edition but it's the same.) Both Black Gate and Serpent Isle works.

@Desolator

Should the Serpent Isle also work fully..?

I read from the Exult.guide that it isn't still fully playable..?

Anyway, isn't Exult for Amiga being developed anymore ? (Bugfixes etc.)

@macce2

After you finish playing Exult, you are cordially invited to help playtest my Amiga game TOTAL CHAOS which is kinda sorta along the lines of a cross between Ultima 3 and chess but not exactly but definitely somewhat but not really.

Total Chaos latest version requires 16 MB ram, OS 3.x, AGA.

I will personally fix any bug you can find.

AAARGH! I hate ixemul! It has to be one of the 5 worst hacks ever for AmigaOS!

All I can tell you at this moment is a few other ppl had the same problem and they somehow got around it. There is apparently some piece of software in the Amiga community that somehow opens or installs a hostile ixemul that somehow prevents other ixemul software from working.

Actually if you temporarily "delete" your ixenet by renaming it to "myixenet"
then reboot your Amiga. Then run Total Chaos. That should fix your problem. This weird problem you are having does not happen to most people. It only seems to affect people with ixenet installed and/or in use by some other app.
After you run Total Chaos the first time, the sound will be decompressed and the Shorten command will NEVER be used again so you can rename myixenet back to ixenet just like it was.

Please Note: TOTAL CHAOS DOES NOT USE IXEMUL! And it never will. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate ixemul? The sounds are compressed with a cli command called "Shorten" from Aminet. This Shorten command secretly demands the use of the hack called ixemul (or as I call it: ixesux)

Would someone please please compile a version of Shorten that does not use ixemul?

I have been begging x303 for such a port but he got stuck on a Truncate() function.

That's sorted it, cheers.
Wondering what else those libraries are messing about with.

I recall one undocumented - probably - requirement for Exult: true colour Workbench screen. When I tried to start it from a 16 bit Workbench, it crashed. Although that may come down to displaying the title images, which ever library or datatype was used.

@Thematic

In which kind of Amiga system did you get it to work ? How much memory etc ?

If the Exult does need true color screen to start, that's strange. I know that graphics card is required(?), but why is there in Abime's Hall Of Light stated that Ultima 7 for Amigas (serpent Isle too) work with AGA.. ?

Anyway, in my system the Exult screen loads correctly, but when I try to launch the game (Black Gate) it doesn't load, only returns to wb without crashing. I have problems in getting AMidi to work, too.

Ixemul is no hack, no matter how much you hate it. It's a *very* useful system.

Yes it may in fact work with AGA, but I don't care about this as it should be rather slow, on a 68060 system. As for what I used, then, it was a Mediator+Voodoo3 equipped A1200, much like in my signature, with slightly less RAM I believe.

@utri007

Cool, glad you like it.

I'm just updating some of my old ports with new features.

Also looking at redoing my old DosBox port. It will still be very slow but maybe of some use for FPGA users (and WinUAE).
