@abalaban

We don't have rights to distribute Diavolo for the Amiga running AmigaOS.

I have version 1.21+ here [060 version 84996bytes] and i have no
problems .. the largest archive i maked was ~ 120MB

I had trouble with archives 2 or 3 times that size, I think, and
also with some email archives (many small files).

Also from the lzx site (http://xavprods.free.fr/lzx/):

Quote:
FAQ area.
1 - I have corrupted datas during an extraction operation.
The versions for 68020 and 68040 are not so reliable when you want to archive
a lot of small files: you may have corrupted datas in the archive. But LZX
won't report the bug during the archiving operation. It will report the bug
in the test, or on an extraction operation.

Solution : use the 68000 version to archive your files if the 020 or 040
don't work.

I may have had trouble with the EC (68000) version as well. I can't
remember. I did some testing and never got to where I could confidently
predict what would happen.

I don't think this will come anytime soon : Amigazeux got the sources (and released the MOS version) but they don't have OS4 nor they have interest in it so I doubt they will ever produce an AOS4 version, however may be if they have enough query for a 68k one... (Amigazeux's version seems to correct some bugs, so will always be good to see a 68k version we could use on OS4)

It may take a while longer before results become available, but an OS4 version of Diavolo Backup 2000 seems to be possible. Getting permission to turn it back into a commercial product, taking development further and finding a distributor is what is taking so long. Please be patient...

I wish you (and all us) luck, keep up the good work!

Ah, and BTW, I think you may avoid "insert next disk" messages writing a C program conforming to Diavolo API (.h files and examples were included in V3 pro. If you become a user, I think you should have access to it).

@Itix

Didn't know that, but anyway thanks for the reply. Looking at Olsen's answer there may still be some hope

@olsen

Do you mean *you are* in the process of doing this ?

If this is the case, then "waaoo" !! You'll end up with quite a number of Amiga program to maintain
Hope you'll manage to get the rights... (and that the price won't be too high too

Yes. Have been in fact for quite a while. You won't believe how hard it is to get this project off the ground. Trying to do commercial development in this Amiga market is the stuff of myth and legend. The myth of Sisyphus comes to mind.

This is not about acquiring the rights. The rights are still owned by the company which financed the production of the original Diavolo Backup. The issue is really in how to turn it back into a commercial product and to take development of the product further.

Anyone recall that program that allowed you to backup to your VCR?!

@ChrisH

Vesalia are one of the good guys, I am in the UK and have ordered lots from them in the past, they always deliver and have good comms.

Yes, I do remember. I guess you think of a product called Amiga Video Backup System. It was driven via parallel port to SCART cable or the like AFAIR. It may be sufficient for small amounts of data upto some hundred MB but it is very slow because of the parallel port. You don't want to backup a today's system with that.
