| @umisef Hi bernd. OffTopic: i must admit that beeing part of beta testing amithlon has to be some of the best time i've ever enjoyed with a PC. and i was very impressed with the speed you developed this product, and how fast you turned out new features and functions to this. this also makes me somewhat sad, that a very talented coder like you are, had to drop out of this, for personal reason that i know of all to well. But as you for some reason, still stick around a little, i have a very faint hope that you some day will pickup coding a bit in the Amiga direction again.
btw: what ever happend to the "AmithlonPPC" thing you had going on your old MAC sometime back?.. digged up this fine link: UAE JIT on G3 iMac
best regards Lasse Bodilsen

I wonder where we'd be now if Umilator (Amithlon 2) had been released and development had been happening on this platform the past 6 years? |
In a much better state, far more members, more software and less arguing (and perhaps fewer nutjobs) |

| Ahem.
There is a mini linux 'distro' that's designed for the specific purpose of running E-UAE.
It differs from KXLight in that it has to be customised for a particular computer (or set of hardware); this keeps it light and extremely fast. KXLight is not nearly as efficient: it uses a much bigger kernel so it can configure itself for a wider range of hardware - perfect if one intends to use it on more than one type of machine.
The 'how-to' is at amiga.org
It's rather technical, but not too difficult. In any case, I'm working on an installer...
Unfortunately, it'll never be quite as fast as Amithlon. But it's compatible with most modern hardware.

Thanks for the reference. Please post again when you have finished your installer.

| @pixie Just as much fun as working on a sunday.
i've tried linux, and had it up and running for 6 month as my primary OS. but some how it just did'nt do it for me. i've done the same with OSX, had it running as my primary os for several month, but i always seem to return to windows. i hope OS4 someday will solve that for me.

I had already looked at the reference, but being lazy I wanted a nice installer!

68k programs in OS4/MOS can run PPC code without knowing they are actually going to call PPC code. x86 code (why not PPC code too) in UAE is not different...

The ImageFX PPC modules, basically run on the Phase 5 boards (and other supported hardware) while the main program runs on the 68K processor. The idea for Amithlon was to run those same modules in x86 code (they already exist there for the Aura plugins) while ImageFX would have run as x86 code on the Amithlon emulator. -Tig_________________ We played the first thing that came to our heads, it just happened to be the best song in the world. |
