| Hello just installed the latest yam nightly from http://www.yam.ch/27.html and all the attending mui updates. Now when I start yam it blinks on and off the screen so fast I can barely see it happen! Snoopy doesn't show any errors in loading yam. last line in snoopy is yam :o.k. =open("env:mui/YAM.prefs", NEW) =[0x1AC4E2AC]
anyone else have problems with this version?

I may be way out but here goes -
I just downloaded the March 27 compile and tried it. It loads OK. I looked through the snoopy log and found these lines quite early in loading. I've quoted a few around the point in question to help with finding them:
0052 : ENV : FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:MultipleYAM",SHARED) 0053 : YAM : o.k. = Open("Work:Comms/YAM/YAM.info",OLD) = [0x1B63F4C8] 0054 : YAM : o.k. = Lock("env:mui/YAM.prefs",SHARED) 0055 : YAM : o.k. = Open("env:mui/YAM.prefs",OLD) = [0x1B63F4C8] 0056 : YAM : o.k. = Open("PROGDIR:.emailcache",OLD) = [0x1B63F4C8] 0057 : YAM : o.k. = Lock("env:mui/PublicScreens.iff",SHARED) 0058 : YAM : o.k. = Open("env:mui/PublicScreens.iff",OLD) = [0x1B63F4C8]
The mailer is doing a bit of wrapping here but note the OLD even though the yam.prefs is written every time I exit YAM . I don't know if this will help but you can try deleting env:mui/yam.prefs and the same in DH0:Prefs/Env-Archive/MUI/
When next you try to load YAM a message may come up saying texteditor keybindings are incompatible so they have been temporarily reset to default etc.
Have you installed the latest mui classes?

do you have codesets.library installed? (not sure if required under AOS4)

It is. But Yam dev throws out requesters regarding codesets.libarary and MUI indicating current versions needed (if lacking) before it will even start. His black screen must be coming from something else.

yes I have codesets.library. I tried those deletions and it made no difference.
@number6 I run yam on owrkbench pub scereen and what ahppens it pops up gives you the message about being a developer version and the you click ok and the yam splash window flicks in an out of existance. I can see that it doesnot show the bar for login password as usual bbefore it disappears.

if he used a separated screen for YAM, probably deleting the "DH0:Prefs/Env-Archive/MUI/YAM.prefs" could help (like NoelFuller suggested)

In case you have an MPEGA datatype installed, please disable this one and try again after a reboot. There exist MPEGA datatypes with a broken descriptor which wrongly detects PNG images as MPEG streams, which makes YAM quit immediately. A recent change to the image loading functions revealed this bug in the MPEGA descriptor. So far the only solution is to disable the MPEGA datatype completely.
To make sure the correct behaviour try to load ALL images in the Icons directory with MultiView. Each of these must correctly show up as an image. _________________ Why stop it now, just when I am hating it?

When did this behavior first become noticeable? What have you installed since YAM dev last worked for you?

ok. Confirmed. I see it here too. Reason I didn't catch it earlier, is that my dev version doesn't expire for a couple of weeks yet. Latest, Tuesday, March 27, 2006 even with the complete icon package (2 more files) is not starting.

Picshow showing them is not important. It may have it's own png decoder.
You should use multiview to check the icons, because multiview uses datatypes and if some thing is wrong with the datatypes, you can notice. The same flaw in datatypes can crash Yam.

Thanks. Just to close this out, the two new icons were folder_trash and folder_trash_new. Both were ok under multiview.

A proper bug report in the YAM bug tracker would be better in any way.
Please don't expect that either Jens or me are going through all active forums just to look if someone has a problem with YAM. _________________ Why stop it now, just when I am hating it?
