@wegster

yeah, and lets not even speak of what the chassis with monitor will cost.

@derfs
actually the xenon is a tripple core processor where each core is two way SMT capable.

You guys all missed the punchline:

Quote:
[08:48:39] ###ACKCONTROLS### Developer systems will be ready to ship to the select devs mid May'ish.

Just 2 more weeks (TM) !

Who are "select devs" these days ?

And who will port OS4 to these new systems ?

Just for the hell of it, lets try to stay away from that phrase if we are sincere?

Now ACK is talking about new Amiga hardware being faster than any PowerPC hardware Apple ever produced as I understand it.

Make me wonder, do these guys drink together you think laughing it up reading our crazy disections of their words?

I sure hope its just "maybe ack means os4 is running much faster on the same hardware then macOS does." as Mr-Z said!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, i was hoping for something cool from Ack like a mobo based on http://uk.theinquirer.net/?article=37426 that.. cpu ... maybe the high end mobo will be

What is the benefit of having the fastest computer if the company that owns OS sources have no knowledge in OS development and in OS4 features, with no policy for the future.
About this new incredible hardware, we have not seen anything produced by them and you would trust that we could use the most advanced PPC hardware ?

@Martini

Don't think so... according to Adam, the new boxes are going to be released "in summer", while according to the Inquirer article, "PA Semi will sell you an evaluation board with a 1682M chip on it today if you want one, full volume will follow in Q4." My theory is that he will use a PPC970MP (it's the only way he can come even close to his "faster than anything Apple ever produced" line)

Well a lot of talk...(no pictures) And the developer version ready in 2 weeks ?

And about the case; What if Hyperion wins, then Amiga inc and Co. doesnt have any os anymore ? The case can take a long time, doesnt ACK care about that ? Or Amiga Inc. ?

And the "faster than any mac made" - Sounds cool, but I dont believe it a second.

Is it again just some boards, renamed and flashed and sold for a large profit ? No thanks.

It didn't make sense to use IDE.
Indeed. All those stupid people wanting to use one of the incredibly plentiful supply of IDE DVD burners, or perhaps employ a cheap IDE/CompactFlash converter to build a silent system. A few may even think about connecting an IDE drive from an exisiting Amiga or A1 to transfer data. They are clearly misguided.

I hate to bring in a bad word or to lower the tone of the thread, but this PC (sorry) I'm using is built from the latest tech - everything was cheap apart from the GFX card and there is nothing using IDE anywhere. Things have moved on.

Next you'll be wanting a floppy drive...

@CodeSmith

I think he mean "faster than any G4 Apple ever produced". I don't think we will have a G5 Amiga.

And guys.. a machine with faster memory badwith, with a G4 7448 1,5-1,7Ghz will FLY with OS4.

The specs need to be high for our market, i'm sure spces will be fine... the problem is OS4 imho.

oh, and ATI recommends a 750w psu for their 2900XT (graphics card).

According to http://www.tweaktown.com/news/7193/amd_roadmap_update_on_r600_details_confirmed/index.html

RHD 2900XT consumes 240 watts.

would be really interesting if the high end version ran on the last g5-rendition. (the low power version aimed for laptops, the one that came out just previous to apple announcing their switch).

IBM CPC945 NB's TDP wattage (12 watts TDP ) is not quite competitive against ATI’s RD580 (~7 watts max TDP) desktop chipset let alone ATI's RD48x mobility chipset.

IBM CPC965 is the next chipset release after CPC945.

Amigans sucks Imho having a complete system is muhc more better, the if you want to buy components you will get limited support is totally right imho. There are too many cards, ram to supporto, often low quality pieces. For a start it is ok, for our little comunity.

@Hammer

that may be, the point of adding my system specs was that quality stuff will suffice OR a ####ty 750w. this is my source anyway.

as a guide the xbox360 has Three dual-core 3.2GHz PowerPC processors, which are not G5's but are at least as good.

1.6Ghz shared L2 cache doesn't equal full speed L2 cache for PPC970. X360 has 3X PPEs (known as "Xenon"). Each PPE core is a dual instruction issue and it's front-end (in-order processing) is more akin to PPC 601 than PPC 970 (out-of-order processing). Each PPC 970 core can issue 4 instructions + 1 branch.

Xenon is specfic for an application i.e. Direct3D dot production.

Mass production from Xenon doesn’t quite directly benefit the rest of PPCs i.e. different core designs. In X86 world, massed produced X64 cores are basically reduced to AMD’s K8 and Intel’s Core 2.

@Insanity

AMD usually takes the worst case scenario in regards to wattage e.g. 62 watt label on the old DTR Athlon 64 3200+ Mobile (Socket 754) is just a label. In real life, it consumes ~35 watts @2Ghz. 62 watt label is true for high end family member i.e. Athlon 64 4000+ Mobile @ 2.6Ghz (Socket 754).

Two RHD 2900 alone will require 480 watts.

@all?

I think that we need to support the PA semi, as it really is the last chance for a ppc cpu for desktop use .. and im kinda depressed over that these last amiga manufacturers can't make it happen ... And no.. Adam is not talented, a talent
would indeed have been using the PA Semi... mahn i would wish that i was a hardware engineer, i would have brought some beautiful stuff to all of you.

See when this whole computer thing at home began, we used to have to build the motherboards ourselves and write all our own software. I say we should bring back those days!

Who's with me? I've got me soldering iron warmed up and I'm ready to go. Amigans, give me some parts!
