Hi Amigans

I have downloaded AmiSYS3PlusEUAE and don't know what to do.
Install it over an EUAE OS4 installation?
Or it's better to install on another dir and maybe run on its own way?
I never know about this possibility of emulating classic Amigas until I show
on Amiga World news and Amigans website too.
It is so tricky to install and run AmuSYSPlus and run it or is it easy?
What parts may go on the A1 OS4 side and what others on the emulation part?
Hope someone here can help me as ASB-Computer have my Mikronik Amiga 1300
for more than 2 years and a half and I am missing AGA and ECS great games and demos.
Another question what's better to emulate classic Amigas on OS4 or on Linux.
Maybe I have to consider the possibility of run UAE on Debian too.
Help is really appreciated

Hi @newlight
Wow, this a tall order or are you even aware of that!

Install it over an EUAE OS4 installation?
No
...maybe run on its own way?
Yes
It is so tricky to install and run AmuSYSPlus and run it or is it easy?
Tricky? More like - complex! On a scale of 1 to 10, about a #6 !
The program was designed to be installed on a PC. The AmigaOne is NOT a PC; just be aware that! Have a valid Workbench3.1.adf and a valid Extras3.1.adf. The installer will ask for them. Read the UAE Docs is a good thing to do. AmigaSYS, AIAB, or AmiKit are all good emulator systems for the PCs! However, they were designed to install in PCs, but Amiga OS4 as surprise for them - it's a real Amiga and the application doesn't necessarily fits or runs smooth or even install smoothly.

What parts may go on the A1 OS4 side and what others on the emulation part?
EUAE is an emulator of Motorola 680xx Amiga systems. It's a seprate entity.

Create a Euae4 directory which has uae0.8.29_wip4 renamed to AmigaSYS. Make sure the read-disk program is copied there too. Copy in the kickstart.rom and the two OS .adfs there. I used EUAE's Filesystem2 to create the "System" instead of using .HDF Make a directory in EUAE4 called 'System' and copy all the files from the .HDF using Fredrik Wikstrom's DiskImageGUI. OR, learn how use .HDF files.
(Now there's an idea -- I wonder if a mounted IDF1 can be accessed by EUAE. Sorry, I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the idea! )

If you got the all these files just mentioned on roomy partition in a directory EUAE4, the only thing left to make all this 'go' is a configuration file called .euarc which the emulator program needs it to startup and emulate "AmigaSYS" in an OS 3.1 enviroment. However, the first bootup will be the install process. BTW, you better know all the commands to the UAE emulator. For example how would fetch the Workbench3.1 disk for DF0: drive? Answer=CTRL+ALT+F1

I really think you should read all the docs and tell me how your .uaerc should go together. You turn to do some work!

I've been there and done that:

i now also tried to extract the hdf file to a filesystem directory. the extraction wored fine but i now have a strange problem. the s-protection-bits inside euae are not set at all??
this results in the amigasys installation to fail very early.
for example the "install" directory. if i look at it from inside euae no single file has the s-bit set.
if i look at the very same directory from os4 (at the same time) the s-bits are set correcty.
i then set the s-bit from inside the emulation and check it again. it is set.
but looking from outside it now is cleared?! i then set it again from os4 and now it is set fro both sides...

how strange is that?!?!

help! what am i doing wrong here?

thanks and
byebye...

Yes the 'script' flag. It's required by Dos to execute install script programs;
you already know that!

this results in the amigasys installation to fail very early.

The first computer law - 'garbagge in = garbagge out'.
I ain't time for linux crap and PC crap. I'm Amiga so I do it Amiga!

The easiest solution for me was to use DiskImageGUI and a IDF1 device. Open the .HDF and copy all the files to directory called 'System'and throw away that .HDF linux contraption. The Euae4 mount looks like this:
filesystem2=rw,DH7:System:System,0
This was done before any installing. I got as far as 'Insert Extras3.1 disk' in the install. My disk wasn't valid ! Image that.
A serious rewrite of the installer is required for the A1. It may work for PCs, which it was designed for, but not a 'real deal' Amiga.

Edit:
There was supposed to a .LZX version, but when I tried to get it it was broken!

exactly. this is common knowledge but why is the script flag (and only the script flag - rwed are there) lost, when copying the files?

that's how i did it. exactly.
but as written above, the s-bit is lost now on the e-uae side
my next idea was that sfs (os4) makes problems here so i now tried a fresh ffs partition for euae. but the problem persists.

i also tried that one and extracted it from inside euae. seems to be better but failed when upgrading to os3.9

the main/only problem currently is the s-bit.
i tried to mount the hdf file disk but this is wayyys slower! much much slower. on the other hand the s-bit works from there...
