No becuase these cards have an old chipset, which are the only cards compatible with the prism2 device. The encryption method is done via hardware.

You are right, I have one of the older ones too, that does have an antenna jack. I think the newer cards have the same chipset, its just the older ones had the jack on them - probably removed on the newer one to reduce cost.

It does not matter really, if you are looking for a reliable, but not overpriced router, consider this.

I have, sold and installed literally dozens of these particular routers. They are a lot more solid than the "PC World" preferred brands such as Belkin and D-Link whilst not being close to the "break the bank" price tag of Cisco stuff.

Like I said, unfortunately you do need to use WEP so so you need to do all you can to add extra security - use 128bit WEP, MAC address filtering, change default router admin password etc.

Just buy one of these from Amigakit. I have had a couple of these and they are the BEST solution for this. The EasyADF software is always being developed and you can get updates when a new version is release. The software is intuitive and easy to use.

OK well Genesis is the TCP/IP stack so there is no place and no need for the WEP key to be entered in the Genesis configuration.

Once you have installed the prism2.device, you just need to add the following line to S:user-startup:

SetPrism2Defaults SSID [your wireless SSID] KEY [your WEP Key]

eg:

SetPrism2Defaults SSID SMITH KEY A6DB7KFF0D

There are other options, but this is all you need for getting up and running.

i started by formating a PC disk to be read on an Amiga 1200

in command promt
format a: /t:80 /n:9 let it format i gave no name to it when it asked

then copy the files over to it
put it into the amiga .....copy the files into their own folder ...walla

Aexplorer works now cheers

Been several weeks since I posted this. Has anyone else taken the plunge? Its well worth it and for the sake of 10 pounds and a few mins work, it can give your Amiga a whole new lease of life...

Hi there,
Ok what am I doing wrong?
All files copied, installed and then modified,
Machine rebooted.
When I go to ping, an error message informs me that
I need to have AMITCP started!
Please help.

WEP is useless, it has been cracked long ago.

Sounds like the WiFi config has been added to user_startup but not AmiTCP.Check that first. If you need, I can paste my startup_sequence and user_startup on here.

well i got one, and followed the instructions, but when i go to ping it just freezes like it cant find anything.

it also annoys me that the amiga tries to boot from the pcmcia card first but i can fix that later

the card also only lights up when i plug it in after i power the 1200 on. anything i need to get to make it power it up itself without having to remove the card all the time ?

it now pings as i stupidly did not RTFM and put the SSID and key after running amitcp.

i also have now got cardpatch and cardreset from aminet and hopefully that will help too.

It hold a Netgear MA401, drivers on Disk and CD. And it's in a DVD Cover. Sold by Amikit

So who cares about aminet drivers. If you gotta buy a card in the first place. Why not buy an Amiga one and support some developers.

Lots of 11b (which are normally 5v/16bit) cards on eBay at the moment. In fact picking up a 16bit wireless card seems easier than a Ethernet one right now!

Just got myself a Netgear PCMCIA wifi card on eBay, boxed for 15 pounds. Soon will be putting it in an A1200/030 machine and doing some cool stuff with it. Will do some Youtube vids again soon also.

Donnot know wether it has been said already, my Wifi Card worked fine in my RBM Towerhawk A1200 Tower, which was the most rock solid tower you could get for an Amiga, everything was metal down there !!! My HTC mobile also had wifi, it didn't work in the basement, but the Amiga did with the wifi inside a metal tower...
So you should be fine with a metal tower.

I remember this thread from ages ago...

My A1200 isn't setup atm, need to retry it with a new router and new WEP setup... (I know, WEP is useless, but it's unlikely anyone would decrypt it here, so it's a thin barrier to stop people leeching WiFi).

Hopefully try and do it ASAP.
