#amiga68k

A1000-A4000 machines (pre OS4). Keeping it real as it were. Pure nostalgia.

Edit: 68k and PPC accepted.

@A1200

What's the score? Who's it for?

Well its for people like me really, who want to chat and ask questions about old Amiga. Being nostalgic about the Amiga means:

- No worries on the outcome of the lawsuit
- Who cares if no one continues with a new OS
- Hardware is only a problem if you don't have an eBay account :)

By all means have fun with new software and push your classics to the max, but don't try to make them replace a modern PC or Mac becuase that just spoils the fun of Amiga.

If you do come to the channel, VERSION me. I am running Grapevine IRC on my A600HD - Standard 68000/7MHz with 2MB RAM, running WiFi!

I dont want to be negative, but dont we have enough amiga chatrooms? The community is so small that another one will just split it up even further. I would rather see a few large ones instead of many small ones with only a few users each.
Is not like you cannot talk about 68k systems in the IRC channels already available.

Oh I disagree whit that, every minute can use Amiga HW instead of Mac or PC is worth it, and yes it fun making that happen to, I think most software developers agree whit me on that.

Well its a good place my classic machines to sit in, and if anyone else wants to play in there, why not?

There is about 10-11 people in there at peak times now so its going OK. You are all welcome, classic Amiga and retro computing is the basis of the channel but you can talk about anything really, its really nice.

Because, uhh, for some reason, people don't already do that in #amigaworld? :-/

Sorry, just don't see the point.

@wegster

Well DALnet still has 1000's of channels, so irc.amigaworld.net has room for just one more popular channel I am sure. At the time of typing there are 10 users in there so its not too bad mate. Just somewhere else to play. Hell, if we can have an AmigaIndia channel, I am sure we can have a classic channel :)

I'd like to see #amigaworld irc moved to freenode. Go where the people are..

Kinda slow atm, so maybe a good time to comment about other places for amiga discussion beyond the forums here on AW.

Every Sunday evening a few Amigans (and former Amigans hoping for the best) gather to chat and share information on a wide range of topics. Subjects will range from the Amiga (of course) to books, TV, and movies to whether or not aliens have visited our planet.

Come join us on the IRC

Server: irc.superhosts.net

Channel: #team*Amiga

When: Sunday evening (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MST)

That translates out to 9:00 p.m. EST. Unfortunately a bit late for Europe and points east, but we do have a few diehard who stay up until 2:00 a.m.

Anyone have other active irc info, feel free to add.

Don't forget Amigaworld irc. "/list" should give you a decent selection of channels and give you some idea of the activity levels and thrust of each channel.

Oh sure, exclude the A500 and A600 owners. You hardware facist, you!

@SpaceDruid

A1000-A4000 would cover the A500 and A600 as A1000 was the first and A4000 the last classic Amiga :)

@Darth_X

#amigaworld began life on Undernet when the network was very popular, when we moved to our own network the channel continued to grow, so no need to move to another network.

@A1200

#amigaworld began with 10 people, so you never know, it could grow like #amigaworld

Well being pedantic, starting with A1000 implies nothing below the 1000 series, so excludes A500, 600, CDTV and CD32

Its getting busier in here nowadays, well lots of idling. More chatting and more users would be great. Keep OS 1-3.9 alive!

@A1200

Non PPC is kind of stupid, as the PPC chip was released in the classic days, pre-OS4.

So I guess I won't be able to participate in the channel since all my classics have PPC's?

As to why, it's also nice to have a channel for classic users to talk without being told to stop living in the past and upgrade to os4.x. (or something to that effect), which happens a surprising amount for a platform whose most powerful hardware could also be considered living in the past.

@HammerD

OK OK the general idea is that is is 68k based machines, PPC is acceptable, just no bleating about OS4 :) Perhaps I should have said OS 1 to 3.9 and not mentioned CPU ;)

Its rather occupied in the channel nowadays. Not too much chat, but the odd nugget of information and project chat goes on. there has been up to 20ish people in there at times - not bad!
