@CygnusEd

That's really impressive.

How is the memory footprint over OWB?

It runs (on RISC OS at least) in 16MB. OWB needs 256MB (and ideally 512MB).

It should also be faster and has some menu items for bookmarks and the like.

It's a nice little browser from what I've seen of it (running slowly under emulation and with no network connection)

Hopefully the GTK code can be easily replaced with AmigaOS code, to make the GUI properly native.

No JavaScript could be a major issue for some sites though.

@Chris_Y

There's plenty of open-source JavaScript implementations that can be added to the browser. It's open source, after all!

In the meantime I've recompiled it for AmiCygnix and it is now very stable (as far I can see)
Only forms are not working. Hope I can fix this.

NetSurf needs about 17 MB to start. The binaries size is 14 MB.

Yes - and it renders the pages in a high quality and is much faster than OWB. Only the GTK-GUI is a bit slowlier. Here is a snapshot of the new NetSurf for AmiCygnix:

Here is a feature list:

- HTML 4.01
- XHTML 1.0
- CSS 2.1
- HTTP/1.1
- HTTP Authentication
- PNG and MNG support
- Cookies

Javascript is planned. There is already a library "libdom" under development, but not intergrated in NetSurf.

As this browser is much more stable than my osb-browser, NetSurf will replace osb-browser for sure. Can't say at the moment, when I will make a release...

@CygnusEd

Wow. Really great.

Keep up the good work!

I'm sure people who have complained about the lack of proper standards and CSS support in Amiga browsers will find this really useful... and also just anyone else of course!

I wish I had OS4 in some form to test it for myself but i'm sure others will be able to do that for you.

And again, thanks!

Alex.

Had a look at this program and it sounds very interesting. I've made a quick port using my (buggy) DirectFB/Cygnix port. NetSurf is really very portable and it compiled without any change (Congratulation to the NetSurf team!).

Here is a screenshot:

Awesome! Thanks for running with this idea, this is really cool!

hello,

interesting for AOS3.x with 68k classic amiga:

- Just 16 mo of memory for using.
- More speed than OWB on 68k (as said previously on the thread).

Maybe the program work direclty with old 68k port of SDL ???.

Please consider this possibility, CygnusEd, thanks

@CygnusEd

Please try and convert the gtk calls to AmigaOS native. I had a look at the source and the code in gtk/ will need rewriting - but you'll need to find out exactly which functions need to be rewritten.

I can't even get it to think about compiling here else I might try it myself

But it was still nice of you to get an interest to it!

Maybe the javascript interpreter Spidermonkey (OS4Depot) could be integrated somehow?

I might as well remind that AWeb is being reworked to support the KHTML engine. Patience is gold.

I think at the moment OWB is the better program, as it doen't need Cygnix and has javascript. But we must see, that NetSurf is work in progress.

I don't have a working compiler for 68k progs. And because of time reasons I can't make such a port. NetSurf has too many dependencies, which I also have to recompile. Sorry.

Sorry, but I don't have the time to do this. I spend all my free time in developing AmiCygnix.
But if you like, I can send you everything you need to compile it .

I think, it is better to wait for the javascript interpreter, which is in the pipeline of the NetSurf team. I don't have an idea, how I could integrate spidermonkey.

@CygnusEd

How "OS4" is CygniX? Can it be ported to AROS and Classic 3.9?

(If not by you, but by someone capable that you trust with your code?:))

Cheers,
Arnljot
