@-Sam-

Exactly the reason why I haven't run OS4 in many months, it's hard to get the motivation going when you're expecting everything to collapse at any moment. That's why I can't wait until October, even Amiga Inc winning and ripping OS4 to shreds would be better than this zombie state we're in.

Webkit is the engine, and Safari, like OWB is the front end. OWB scores on the engine used, IBrowse scores on the user front end.

I can understand that there would be amiga integration problems (eg lack of tabs is probably caused by the Reaction tab control being different to gnome's or whatever is used on Linux these days) but otherwise it should be a better browser overall.
This is why OWB has to be ported to OS4, Joerg is implementing the OS4 features of the previous versions OWB to the doduo version which uses the latest webkit. But it all takes time.

Quote:
Besides, I haven't used it for about a year now, but IIRC the OS4 IBrowse doesn't support multiple windows or tabs either.

Maybe you should use it, or at least try it out. IBrowse2.4 has multiple windows, multiple tabs, printing support, mime type support, cookies, download manager, bookmarks, and password management, all of which OWB doesn't (yet) have. Having said all that OWB displays sites more like they should be, it is more compatible with certain internet technologies than IBrowse.

Give IBrowse2.4 a go, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I believe this is the cost, regardless of whether you own a previous version of OS4 or not. I think it's simply one price fits all.

Cheers,

OS4 IBrowse is limited to 5 multiple windows/tabs.

Nice shots !

I have to say I am starting to really like the new GUI look now...

I strongly hope that AmigaOS 4.1 can soon be buyed from SAM and Mac Mini owners too...

AmigaOS 4.x potential installed base must become largest possible... quickly !

My thoughts exactly.

If AInc. win it will be a sad day for everyone involved and who ever was involved with the Amiga and still remembers it from some fondness.

But who knows? Maybe we're in for a good XMas for once?

May as well do. Go for broke. I must say it read better that way.

Hyperion are hardly going to acknowledge copyright for something they feel is theirs to someone else.

If I recall correctly the IBrowse that ships with OS4 is the crippled demo version, while OWB is the full version.

More like a lite version. It's still 68k, but there is a PPC javascript library to offset that.

Yes it does and no it isn't! It certainly isn't as functional as Safari! Which isn't perfect either, it breaks on ebay for instance. On some sites the web gadgets don't work. So the java interpreter must be buggy or slightly out of date.

I wish they would. An announcement of OS 4.x available on some available affordable hardware would be the cream on the top of the cake.

@Slash

Not sure I understand what you mean.

The link in post #1 is still valid.

Now we need a new version of SAM for Amiga OS 4.1

That would be my favourite gift for christmas.

Cheers

@Birbo

We have a new version of SAM, the Flex version.

I don't think we'll have a new SAM (more powerfull) within this year.
However OS4.1 would run very well on those SAM

@-Sam- & number6

The first time I looked at this, it was indeed a news item on the front page. Above the CaveStory news item. When I came out of it and refreshed the page, it was gone.
