@Hypex

I see you uploaded an update to mkimage on OS4 Depot.

Did you also compile it for Linux or is the one on OS4 Depot the Linux version?

Keep up the good work!

So I see. It's arrived!

No it's just for OS4.

Edit: But you should be able to compile it under Linux with a make.

This one should still work for Linux. At least it doesn't load properly on OS4.

@Hypex

Your image also works with a netinstall ISO. Now I just have to wipe out some old data on the amigaone-linux project homepage, because the additional install ISO would exceed the 100MB limit for the webspace.

edit:
The install ISO can now be downloaded from http://amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/download.php

for checking out the net ISO and uploading the install ISO as well. It's great to see the Linux side of the Amiga being kept up.

Already when probing for the harddisk, or only on a CD/DVD drive? What happens, if you specify hdx=cdrom for the CD devices?

It locks when probing for the hd...
The first hd(hda or hdb if hda wasnt probed) it encounter locks up everything...
Dunno why...
If dont probe the hdds the instal process will go on but when load the install cd it stops at 2/3%...
Any idea?
Maybe an usb related problem?
Was possible to disable the usb from the boot parameters?

The Linux IDE driver seems to have problems with the A1SE since version 2.6.8. It was also reported that Samsung drives can make problems.

I don't think it is an USB related problem, but you could test the 2.6.10 kernel image I put on my webserver (see here). Then we can isolate the faulty code in the kernel.

@Tuxedo

Sorry to hear the A1SE has problems. A few days ago I with soem one who owns an A1SE so would have tested it if I knew. Right now, apart from Geri's suggestions, I'd have no idea why it would lockup on HD probing.

But the A1SE does have USB trouble so perhaps you could try disabling USB fully in UBoot and then give it a shot. Some old kernels couldn't boot with USB devices connected on an A1XE, and I had to physically remove them as well as disable USB!

I tested Debian CD with hdx=cdrom option last night and it passed HD probing but booting stopped after some input and keyboard related line (which was displayed right after "freeing unused kernel memory" line). (I have USB disabled.)

I haven't had time to test 2.6.10 kernel yet but 2.6.18 works (with hdx=cdrom option).

Btw. We are using diskboot command to boot Linux CD's. But is it possible to create a CD image with AmiDVD on OS4 because it can write SLB on a CD. So I was thinking it would be possible to boot from these live/installation CD's directly (without command line). Or is Linux booting from a CD too much different kind of process than booting from a HD ?

It's hard to tell what's going wrong. The description of the lockup sounds as if it is not related to the IDE subsystem.

I would say it doesn't work for a Linux CD, if it just contains a kernel uImage. But that would be a good question for an OS4 dev.

Ok...
I done some tests:
1 - reburned a new iso on the cd...
2 - added hda=cdrom hdb=cdrom

I can get installation begin but when to scanning cd the install process will stops at 6%...
Any idea?
Maybe related to etch debain version different to the one the Amiga Installer image was created for?
Maybe some one can create an image with an old kernel version that works with A1SE?
Maybe I've to install the old 3.0?

Don't put "cdrom" behind everything. If your cdrom is, for example, connected to second IDE port as master then it's hdc=cdrom. In that case leave hda, hdb and hdd alone. I checked your profile and you have Sii0680 so I assume you don't have anything connected to A1 (VIA) IDE ports so add hde=noprobe and hdf=noprobe into command line. Did you remember to add "ide=reverse" into command line ? (hda=1st master, hdb=1st slave, hdc=2nd master and hdd=2nd slave.)
