Besides, we have a BIOSUpdater program in SYS:System. It would be a shame not to use it.

Yea but the last update removed the great easter egg it had.
It flashed you after flashing the chip.

| @Rogue I was hoping for a repaired or developed UBoot too. I am not really sure it is uboot, but two things. First I can't make changes to uboot prefs in utilities that stick. Second when the choice comes to boot off the Linux side or the Amiga side every once in a while like sometime a month or even a two weeks the Amiga boot disappears and only linux boots. I then restart and open up Uboot prefs go to Amigaboot and change to include the second source as the second drive escape out and open up the Uboot cli and type saveenv and other more elaborate strings and I am fine for a while. All this happened after changing a battery. The obvious solution for me will be the erase the Linux stuff and go Amiga 4.1 but I have wrongly or rightly blamed Uboot. Is this a Uboot problem? I would recommend to try and exchange your batteries, it seems like yours cannot supply enough voltage for the NVRam... _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |

How do we remove the ps2 keyboard check in UBoot at startup ? If i instead of using ps2 port use USB port for my keyboard then i get the following in Uboot.
Re-trying keyboard reset kbd: failed sdf test
And i set the uboot variable to use usb for keyboard so after the error it finds usb and uses it.
So this check at startup takes longer time to boot ;(
When a recoverable alert message appears in OS4 then i can't click it away. I have to wait for it to go away itself after some time. Its ok waiting for one but not when there are several alerts. This doesnt happen if mouse connected to ps2.
Im now back to ps2 port. Too bad as i was to buy a new logitech usbonly keyb+mouse ;) |

Yup.
I believe it's version 1.1.1 (I'm not at my A1 right now). It's been quite a while since it was updated.
This glitch occurs just before the graphic SLB menu appears. It's been mentioned on AW before. There is a work-around for it but I don't remember what it was. I believe it has something to do with the order of the CD and hard drives, which is why it happens on some machines and not others.
Not a big deal. I've been living with it this long. _________________ 'unfixed' A1XE, 512mb RAM, plug-in USB card, Sil 0680 IDE card, Radeon 9250, built-in sound, OS4.1 update 5. |

| @Rogue Thanks I will try a third battery first was neXt source knockoff second is a Duracell. I think I will try a camera shop this time, I imagine they have a higher turnover and fresher stock. John Paul |

That's not quite as annoying as it's pretty rare and usually happens when a recoverable alert appears (and they time out after a while), if you get a string of them or can't be bothered to wait, then it's quicker to hit the case reset button.... oh, or it would be if it wasn't for the ps/2 keyboard reset bug in U-Boot!

well, I have a ps2 keyboard connected too, so the boot time is pretty normal since uboot finds it. Having that thing collecting dust could bother me only visually but I can overlook that and it's shurely one thing that isn't important in the situation "we" are right now regarding hardware. But then again, since apparently there is a new version of UBoot for the A1 which addresses some issues, why not release it maybe with a big Warning of beta-status?
I brought out that thing about the recoverable allert just to get to know if it could be related to that, infact my worries are IF (and hopefully) os4.1 comes out for e.g. SAM will there be a way to click away the recoverable allert since we well be able to plug only USB HIDs? The timing-out thingy does not work well here, since the most I waited once, was for about 7 minutes with no sign of ever ending . And reseting the machine is not always the best choice if there is something left to be saved.
I noticed thogh, that if the screen is shifted in any direction (e.g. because I did not drag it back exactly to its right place or because I did it on purpuse to be able to go back to the app and save the work) the recoverable allert appears as a windowed requester and usb input devices continto work..

I second that!
And since Rogue didn't (or does not further) get paid for his work on Uboot and he has already done the work, why don't we donate, maybe it will ease the decision to release it sometime.. I'll be glad to. Last edited by Amigo1 on 11-Aug-2008 at 03:31 PM.

Hm, my micro is started virtually every morning and turned off again late in the evening, so although it's not exactly 24/7, it comes pretty close, and it's still using the same battery it came with in december 2004...

Have you tried using the inards of an old PS/2 KB? Just the electronics and the cord plugged into the socket. Put in a plastic bag, tucked away nicely behind the case, this might solve your problem?
I admit that I haven't tried it.
