Surprisingly I have quite a few USB sticks.. and my last few PCs have not had floppy drives.
But I still have quite a lot of software on floppy disks that I would like to recover if possible. _________________ Men who have girlies in their avatars are Girliemen! |

I have a situation where nothing but a floppy will work. I have a WindowsXP Pro SP2 install CD for my laptop. My laptop has a SATA hard drive. The Windows SP2 install cd does not have a driver for my SATA chip, so I have to load an extra driver for it before the installer will see my hard drive. The ONLY way to load an extra driver is via floppy drive. USB stick is not supported for this task. CD is not supported for this task. I had to go searching for a USB floppy drive last time I had to reinstall Windows so I could possibly do so.
OK, so that's not a common usage. But I cannot reinstall Windows without a floppy drive. I think it's absurd that MS doesn't allow a USB stick to serve this task. Considering how hard it is to find a floppy drive these days, I was rather annoyed._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

The cpu could easily be emulated using software afaik. Wont be as perfect as minimig emulation, but it would definitely be a improvement over emulating everything in software. |

It was me who think his board is missing the connector.
This sam440ep looks the same as mine so can you tell me if I am right about it having the connector missing? http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1227/img2988eq9.jpg _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

Ok, that board does not have the FPGA extension / I/O connector. :)
And ACube web page says the technical specs are: # MiniITX Form Factor (17x17 cm) ... # FPGA Lattice XP with 80 pin I/O expansion connector ... (just verified it from the web page)
So. IMO: ACube should arrange the FPGA connector to those that need it or compensate the missing connector somehow.
(sure, currently no-one needs it untill FPGA dev kit is available for SAM owners) Last edited by KimmoK on 01-Feb-2009 at 06:17 PM.

My SAM hasn't got a FPGA connector, I am not sure I am happy about this.
As I said
Here
post number 52.
What if someone comes up with a cool expansion for my SAM and I haven't got a FPGA connector? Last edited by TheDaddy on 01-Feb-2009 at 06:41 PM. Last edited by TheDaddy on 01-Feb-2009 at 06:41 PM.

"What if someone comes up with a cool expansion for my SAM and I haven't got a FPGA connector?"
Then you "kindly" call ACube, etc...
IF the FPGA is USELESS somehow , then the connector is useless. I hope the FPGA is not just sitting there doing nothing "forever". (AmigaInc does that and it's not nice)
It is not ok to first sell something and then deliver something else.
I hope there will be decent clarification at some point.
(A1 defects come in to my mind, no-sound, buggyDMA, still boards were sold with AC97 sound ... ... ... ) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

>>Then you "kindly" call ACube, etc...
I am kind of disappointed as in this case the SAM should have cost less, but I do trust ACube and I manage to get in contact with them...sometimes

I am just thinking that if an expansion using the FPGA comes out then I am screwed?!

I hope so.

As there seems to be those holes drilled for the FPGA connector, It should not be impossible to get the connector soldered afterwards. (the silver lining of the cloud)
In the crazy Amiga world, it might be possible that there is something weird/geeky in every open pinhole of the SAM. (I hope that happens because it can be done, not because we have to do it because the lack of new HW) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

| If I one day start playing with FPGA programming etc., I would start by building a RAM controller on a FPGA. I have not ran out of memory on SAM yet, but the day comes... When it happens, it would be nice if the SWAP partition would be on a physical RAM memory.
Also, bootable RAD drive would also be nice on a separate memory.
I think there are RAM controllers freely available, to be programmed on FPGAs. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |
