Could you release a block diagram so I can update my avatar in MindSpace
If I could get the OS4.x version for the board for £50 or less than I'd be tempted - but I really don't need to pay another £100 for a third copy of OS4.
I haven't got a SAM, so an alternative low-end board might be interesting.
But like many others, I'd really like a higher end board with newer graphics capabilities etc

"Since this is a sneak peak we won’t reveal all the specifications only that she can compete with other motherboards running at speed of 500-700 mhz. The feature set includes USB 2.0 high speed, Gigabit Ethernet, SATA and support for DDR RAM (DIMMS)."
Unless you at least specify the cpu I would never say yes or no. I don't buy anything w/o knowledge about it. Show something real amd we might talk. Up to now your credibility is just void. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Is this an end-user price? I mean dealer profit and VAT included? If yes, thats OK, i would buy....but only hypothetically. I 've already paid for the SAM. Try medium-level 1-1.5GHz/SATA/USB2....and maybe something else than PCI? AOne/Peg2 are discontinued. It would be very good replacement.

If it's a 1GHz OS4 board that actually exists and costs about £200, then of course I'll consider buying one. _________________

If you are going to create a developers system, atleast give the developers something to play with.
1ghz simply wont cut it, when they are trying to push to the limits during ports of bigger gear out there.
1ghz wont cut it, when they are rendering, and the rendering is taking a whole day due to lack of power.
1ghz wont cut it, when they are trying to continue development, while things are rendering, or intro sequences are being compiled.
Put simply, although this would be a nice cost, and I would be willing to buy it, it just falls short, especially since I already have a SAM440EP, I will not need another that is practically under a 1ghz. Even if it is exactly 1Ghz, it is not over, and there are various boards already that are not over.
So, somewhere around 1.5 - 2.5 ghz would see some new users to the group, and would perhaps see some old developers come back.
Many devlopers would definately consider giving atleast one port of one of their products, or even creat one piece of software from scratch for the user base, to see via experimentation, if the user base has grown due to recent progression.
AND
I would love to see the new Alien Breed on such a system by team 17.
EDIT: I will vote yes, as it may give people like my friend who wishes to try the Operating System a chance to do so. Provided it runs Linux, as this would be a double bonus.
I also choose to vote yes, so that your company can also grow bigger, alongside Acube Systems to also grow bigger, and maybe you will then be able to, in future, actually have a much, much larger Computing Processing Unit. CPU power does mean a lot to many users, as they would be able to show off the Amiga OS more efficiently, rather than being almost exactly the same level as a dual core CPU PC now.
Id rather be able to compete with a quad core from a 2.5 ghz CPU'ed Aimga OS system.
What ever you do, make sure you have a nice case handy, with a BOING BALL on it, for the new users, or existing users that would like one. END EDIT. |
Majority of X86 PCs bieng sold these days are laptops i.e. quad-core not required.

| @Troika I think a 1ghz model should be your starting point as that puts it on a par with PegII but with the advantage of sata etc and the fact people will actually be able to buy it. A 500-700mhz model will seem too similar to the sam in most peoples eyes although actual performance could be greater depending on which cpu is utilised. However if you manage to produce the board at the price/spec specified and it has os4.1 (I was going to say or mos2.2 but then I remembered I already have the Efika as a lowend mos machine) available for it then I would buy it to keep at work.

| I should clarify too that I don't currently have any OS 4 or MorphOS hardware*. I can't really justify** spending over £600 on a 667MHz board + OS 4.1.
* Although, I have a G4 Mac mini running Debian that will be running MorphOS when it's released for it.
** I can't really justify it to my wife. She looks at me over her glasses when I start talking about the price of Amiga stuff. _________________

I don't really trust your announcements. Why not finish the hardware first and then announce it. But if it actually were to be made i might buy one.. |

| @Troika I would if it runs OS4.1 and i hadnt just bought the Sam. Definitely a competitive price if it does run AmigaOS.

An entry level board is important, but we already have the Sam. Many (most?) people are waiting for a high end board. However, this could be a Sam beater if the CPU used has L2 cache.

It is way cheaper though. |

If your board receives the approval and endorsement of Hyperion then I may purchase it.

Laptop not required here - I would prefer a quadcore PPC system over a laptop anytime...

| @Troika I'm sorry, but this is a disaster waiting to happen:
1. Hyperion are unlikely to license OS4 to another *low-end* motherboard, because it would compete with ACube. (It would be different if there was a huge market, but currently there is no evidence of this, so competition would be detrimental, as no-one would make enough money to cover design/manufacture/testing/support/etc.) Unless you already have an OS4 license, you will be wasting your money IMHO.
2. Sad to say, but your name is mud, you are a laughing stock. You made several "promises", had a case competition, and strung us along for a few years, but never released anything, nor ever gave any reasonable explanation (and I include your current "excuse"). Produce a product, get it independently reviewed, THEN maybe you'll be taken seriously - not before. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. Hello!
Well, I voted "NO" because I have bought a SAM440ep. The complete system cost me a little fortune (around 900 euros) and it is somewhat underpowered (e.g when I resize the window of OWB the screen looks horrible). IMHO it isn't the price but the perfomance of the board you are building. It seems that a 440ep 667Mhz cpu just isn't enough. So, keeping that in mind, I think that you should go for the fastest PPC CPU possible. 1 GHZ should be the starting point. If, you built something really fast then I will surely buy even if it comes at higher price than it cost me to built my SAM system.
Hope we will hearing again from you soon! Bye! _________________

Glad to see some competition in the market. Now make sure you deliver the product, and at the target price.
Also, make sure that it comes with OS4.1
