And there you have it. We could have saved ourselves a 14 page thread.
@Troika - no OS4, no point.

No mysteries, just a reminder to everyone that in the past countless announcements about hardware were made and never materialized.
Designing and producing hardware is something that only a handful of companies in the Amiga market can still do because all others lack the skill, the resources (capital) or a combination of both.
Currently A Cube is the only company producing and delivering (albeit a bit slow) working hardware to run AmigaOS 4.x on.
This may or may not change into the course of 2009 but for the foreseeable future this will remain the case.

What *may* come out is a PPC simulator for the C64, allowing OS4.1 to run on it.
But to a potential customer, I would suggest ordering a Sam *now*, because the waiting list is not likely to get any shorter and there isn't any likely alternative within the time frame of a Sam delivery.

| If you ever wondered why the Amiga user base is shrinking while other alternative / classic platforms are successful or even growing you need only look at this thread.
So Troika are "small time", they're not a big well resource company. They're probably a one or two man show and yes they've screwed things up.
However, they are one of the very few actually trying something.
If someone trying to build something gets nothing but a barrage of insults, how do you expect anyone to get interested in building hardware? Or for that matter, how do you expect anyone to provide anything for the Amiga market at all?
The market is now so small all you are going to get is small bedroom companies building low end, expensive hardware. If you drive them away you'll end up with NO new hardware.
The Amiga may not be dead but - yet - but there's a hearse waiting at the front door. This is a rather ignominious end for what was once a great, advanced and well loved platform. However, worst of all, it won't be killed by stupidity of the the companies involved, (and some have been *really* stupid) it will be killed by the stupidity of its users. _________________ Whyzzat? |

Wow, that's a nice board. I wouldn't mind paying $700-$800 for that. e500 is what, G3 class? at 1GHz+ and with PCie and SATA buses, that should be quite a nice upgrade for any existing next-gen amiga.
