@amitv

This is what I want my next Aros machine to be, has been on my to do list for a couple of months now. just got to save up £1000. Slight overkill but very cool.

Only that you waste 15 cores, 8 SPE and 1 GPUs

Great, another low production piece of hardware from a small company, that is not designed primarily to be a desktop computer.

Quote:
The company was founded in 2002 in order to serve the scalable and high performance computing markets in engineering and scientific computing, including life sciences, chemistry and physics. The company is profitable and growing rapidly. The founder of Scalable Informatics, Dr. Joseph Landman, has been working in HPC in one way or another since 1988; as a student performing research, at Silicon Graphics and other companies, and now at Scalable.

If I want to dream about a system I'd rather dream about the YDL PowerStation.

IMHO: it's a ugly monster!

Why all those x86 cores?

Tesla + Cell would be enough for Amiga high end. (IMO, again)

Update: I would be very, very, very ,very happy with just the PowerXCell on my next Amiga.
(( http://www.t-platforms.ru/en/cell/PowerXCell.pdf ))

Could a computer be built around IBM PowerXCellTM 8i Accelerator Board ???

Next Windows version needs it only to be able to show "Welcome to Windows"

@KimmoK

IBM's RoadRunner is a hybrid of PowerXCELL and Opterons.

Lol! Because they are only Intel new. And lets not get into x86 *again*!

Because that combination gives you just about the best performance you can realistically get. Granted, it's not very useful for the Amiga but still.

Would love to see AmigaOS4.x running on this (and the PS3)!

If we're just dreaming, then I'm still waiting for OS4 on this:

(from here)

Of course, there's still the whole OS4-isn't-multi-processor problem, and the 64-bit problem, and the programming needed to update OS4 to POWER6.

Oh, then there's also the problem that this thing isn't designed to fit on a desk, and then the whole 6-figure-price-not-matching-my-income thing.

But, it would be the most powerful Amiga on the planet!

Long ago the Amiga launched with the SideCar, which allowed the Amiga to run PC software in this mutli-processor environment from within AmigaOS.

I would love it, if it would be possible to run MacOS X, Windows and AmigaOS4.x side by side and especially from within each other some day in a similar manner.

@MikeB

That would be interesting. Also EUAE could be offloaded to the x86 chip.
