| MSN on PC has the option to set a "personal message", which is displayed to the right of your contact name. I've upgraded SabreMSN from MSNP8 to MSNP11 (which is pretty much the same)... but it allows personal message support.

When you hit enter, it'll display an alert for 5 seconds, that informs you of your successful personal message change, and then disappear..

I need suggestions for the GUI, as the Label + String gadget for setting the personal message looks very ugly to me. Last time people made GUI suggestions, they were very good and improved the look. I have no idea how to make this look good!
Oh, and also, there's funny characters in the message string, but I will fix that later. It's not a major.. I was more focused on how to set the message today..

Can you add an arexx command to change the personal message?

The funny characters are on personal messager of other contacts? maybe they have Messenger plus that can add coloured letters and especial characters on personal messages
Keep the good work!Last edited by Fransexy on 08-Jun-2009 at 11:47 AM.

Great idea, personally I would not display this personal message thing in the GUI at all. I would just make an option in the settings (or a menu option) to change it in a separate window. I very much like in SabreMSN that the main GUI is kept simple, and is not cluttered with a lot of things like Microsoft's client for instance (which annoys me as hell..).
By the way support for adding an avatar image would be great too :) And to display other people's images during a conversation. |

What annoys me about microsofts client is that it's slow as hell and ugly in places... sabremsn looks pretty good! What I wonder is if MUI is capable of some show/hide options that looks good and not like a hack... to make the textstring field appear in the main GUI... either that or making a small windows appear to put in some text ala rename in DOpus 4 for example...

I like it minimal too. Maybe making a private message in own window. Using menu's/contextmenus isnt bad. Myself i love contextmenus. |

Actually I just downloaded the latest SabreMSN, been using 0.44 for quite some time, it's making slow but steady progress. I like the fact that it's a simple program and I hope it will stay that way, the only things I'm still missing from it are:
1. Multi-line text input like in other clients (very useful) 2. Support for profile images 3. File transfer doesn't seem to work (I see files offered but doesn't transfer) |

might clean up the source code, and open source it? .. then a real coder could get file transfers and display pictures implemented (possibly)..
@thread
I just figured out why my online contacts havent all been showing up as online, since forever.. I had fluffed up my string pointers! I seem to have fixed it. It needs further testing though. I literally spent all day on that, analysing tcpdump and figuring out how to do my pointers properly..
Since updating to MSNP11 I'm getting disconnections sometimes, so I need to figure that out too.

You're doing a great job with SabreMSN so I think you should keep doing it Every coder starts with little experience and you get better and better the more you continue doing it. I'm sure you will be able to tackle the remaining issues. Open sourcing is also not a bad idea, as long as you don't stop developing it and just let some others help out here and there. |

First of all I like the GUI design in those screenshots, pretty much what I had in mind! ... also I like reading what hopefully will come in the next release. I once said to Slash that he had great ideas with Epistula, and I still think so, but this applies to SabreMSN as well. I love when a programmer has good ideas about what the program should be like. IBrowse is a good example of that I think as are all of your programs. SabreMSN are about to be a Pidgin beater... that ain't bad at all ... |

Your projects involving improving the SabreMSN are very impressive and exciting, i have to say. The GUI thing might be complicated. Not sure how to make it look even more impressive...
Could i suggest you include different language support for SabreMSN, too? If users in countries like Norway and Sweden are using their own language in AmigaOS 4.1, it should be possible to display SabreMSN in the same language, too? What do you say?
I'm sure you have many great plans. Keep up the good work. _________________ Probably Pegasos 2 G4 1Ghz 1GB DDR-system, ATI Radeon 9250, ESI@Juli PCi-soundcard, all running AmigaOS 4.1 with latest updates, or a new powerful Amiga! Fingers crossed! |

| SabreMSN v0.50 - 2009-06-12 - http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/ for OS3/OS4/AROS
2009-06-12 : Alpha 50 - Contacts graphics now have a transparent background. Thanks klesterjr! - All online contacts should show up as online now, thanks to fixing some errors in my string pointers - Protocol updated from MSNP8 to MSNP11 - Personal messages are retrieved and can be set by clicking on your name above the "Status" Cycle gadget - New ARexx command to set a personal message: "PERSONALMESSAGE message" - The renamed contacts file has been retired, as the server seems to now remember the display names properly in MSNP11 (or so it seems..) - Added BetterString.mcc to the "used classes" list, so it can be customised in MUI Settings. - Stability seems slightly better?

MSN v11 and v8 are more or less identical. The "challenge" reply was complicated, but the rest only took a day to update. My next goal will be getting file transfers working. I will be doing some reading and research on the MSN development forums to find out how to get things working right. I can transfer from Sabre to Sabre, and from Sabre to AmiMSN fine. Also I know a couple of MSN using friends.. some get this message: "The invitation from jahc to start File Transfer was automatically declined because jahc is using and older version of Windows Live Messenger." and some transfers will actually work with others.. I have ports open on my router to allow people to connect to Sabre's listening sockets. Sometimes the transfers mess up at the very end (I have a clue how to fix this).. sometimes it aborts halfway with weird "disk full" error messages at their end... and quite often, they transfer fine without any errors..
But, I will try and sort this out anyway. It's my current goal.

My display name is Jörgen and the "ö" character seems to mess things up... if I type a message in the chat windows with the character "åäö" my display name is shown as "J?n" ... however if I type a message without "åäö" my display name is shown as "Jörgen" which is correct... |
