Imagine the benefits of an AROS/Amiga like OS running on every hardware.

If somebody wants to run PPC AmigaOS on x86 why don't you just try to hack QEMU to emulate Pegasos2 (/A1 with dongle emu) and then use legal copies of AOS4 on it. (I think it would run good enough on multi GHz machines.) Problem solved. You'd have AmigaOS on x86. Period. It's so simple. (Of course anybody can keep using heavily patched 68k AOS3.9 on UAE.)

@Tomppeli

Wouldn't it be simpler just to use AROS to start with?

@Arko

If the Anubis team simply desire a kernel that can have adequate hardware support, memory protection and SMPT they should consider some of the completely open source microkernels being developed.

@ReverseGTR

Maybe so but one of the people listed as part of the Anubis team is on the GnuStep team. Will GnuStep run reliably on that microkernal?

@Samurai_Crow

The Jari OS microkernel as of now is compliant with the GNU Core Utilities and Library C regex within the POSIX framework. So I don't see a reason why it can't support an Object-C based GUI like GNUStep.

This is just one of many open source Unix based microkernels being developed for compatibility for the x86-64 and/or IA-64 architectures the Anubis OS team can take advantage of.

This will not be a Linux distribution. Anubis will only use the Linux kernel and will build from there. It will be an Amiga-like OS.

An Amiga-Like operating system that has a Linux kernel and uses GNUStep for the app framework/user interface? Consider me interested!

It could be very good; answer to many problems the community has faced over the years... Anubis is an Amiga like OS that can run on x86 hardware with all the bells and whistles... no reason why it cannot surpass AROS in the long run!

@ReverseGTR

The linux kernel has more hardware drivers than any other open source
kernel and it runs on almost anything that is 32bit or more. Why use
something worse? IMHO there is no better choice?

@QuBe

Plus, with Linux, SMP and 64 bit is already done, along with ports to x86, PPC, ARM, etc. Anubis could theoretically even be made to run on an expanded classic Amiga with a bit of work!

EDIT: Clarity
