@swoodall

Thanks for the link. I dont remember visiting it before. I dont use any special internation characters as you see in the picture URL. to the right of the dopus window is the original filenames. They are not that long either in number of characters. I dont use any comments on the files either as this i got even more problems (os4.1) the times when i used my older SonyEricsson K810 (which i sold).

I even tried to copy only 10 of these files. Sometimes it went ok and other times corrupted with exactly the same number of files. When i format an USB stick information shows FAT2. If i try to format in FFS (shell format) then the information still says FAT2 ?

Hello,

- the corrupted drawers and files on the kicko medias have all 8+3 caracters.
- Surely kicko don't have a drawer previously on his media.

for my example, I have just copied, on a memory stick medias allways filled and deleted by a PC or a PSP, for the first time with A SAM+AOS4.1, only one file called ccccc.cso (5 letter.3 extension).

previously I have copied from the media to the SAM without problems. the problem is when writing to the FAT32 medias.

IMHO the long name support on CrossDOSfilesystem is broken..........

Computer: SAM with AOS4.1 and AOS4.1.1

Problem: copy on FAT32 medias (usb key or memory stick).

Symtoms:
On a USB FAT32 formatted medias, allready filled of files with a PC or an amiga1200+spider2, the fact than copy 1 files on the medias WIth a NG-computer corrupt the content of all the FAT32 medias.

Result:
- 8+3 filename on all the medias.
- totally crazy size inside the medias (some files verry little and some file 50-100go and some with -20 or -40 go). all the content are destroyed.

Frequency: each time I try to copy on a FAT32 medias. Mean verry often....

@Kicko

Way executable flag on JPG pictures?

Try this, USE exchange comodity, show usb masstorage interface,
format the memory stick, remove the executable flag from files on your HD, and then copy the files over.

@RacerX

BTW: If anyone is interested, my machine is an 'unfixed' A1XE, currently using a plug-in USB card, 512 mb RAM, Sil 0680 IDE card.

I've got curruption with an Eclipse mp3 player. I've also had the same kind of corruption on a 'known good' (i.e. it worked fine before Update 1) thumb drive (Dane-Elec brand 4gb).

It's a pity we can't (?) specify the filingsystem to use for USB devices, because I always found FAT95 to work flawlessly on Amithlon.

@Kicko

I have no idea about your phone problem.

I have been using FAT12 on my mem sticks and it seems to work just fine.
I just tested a long file name with no problems.

' thisIsaVeryLongFileNameForMusic2001t.mid' 36+3

In FDISK I set the t option (system ID) to -1- which is FAT 12.

I format the sticks under Linux using - mkdosfs - with no options. mkdosfs /dev/sdc1

Well, works for me.

P.S. This shows as FAT2 under OS4. DOS Type 0x46415432.

@Mechanic

The first time I have inserted my PSP memory stick 16go on the SAM and copy the first file on, crash completely. I have reformated the memorystick with the PSP and copy over all the files with my classic, no problems.

I have recently formatted on my PSP a 4gb memory stick and have copied files on this memory stick without problems (same files as on the 16gb).

I have also seen the problems a lots of times on my OCZ USB key 16gb.

- Maybe the problem is more related to big USB medias ?????

- Maybe the problem start as soon as the medias are used on other computers than an amiga (and with big medias like 16gb) ???

A good point is an AOS4 betatester have recently seen this problem with his amiga-ng (but very hard to explain and reproduce all the time) ....

Both situations above are possible. The Linux I use (and maybe all of them) only
allows 2 FATs and perhaps this is not enough, especially if there are many small
files.
