@Pecosbil
At Pianeta Amiga I asked AFXgroup (whos porting Gnash to OS4) about a plug-in for OWB. He replied that OWB lacked a port of some kind and that we were lucky because we were going to get FireFox. I said "wow! are you sure?" and he said "yes" with an unofficial/secrecy attitude

Hence, bet on a Flash enabled Timberwolf my friend

@Amiga1200Mark

You might be correct, but gansh (whatever that is) isn´t mentioned at all.
This is a thread about Timberwolf.

@All

Flash/GNASH is a separate bounty hosted here: http://www.amigabounty.net/index.php?function=viewproject&projectid=31
If you want to make a donation for Gnash click the Paypal button on the site.

Donations for the Timberwolf bounty can be made here: http://www.amigabounty.net/?function=viewproject&projectid=44

Timberwolf will accept plugins (like GNASH) which is currently not possible on OWB.

Very nice looking! I'm starting to get quite enthused at the idea of running Firefox on AmigaOS with those pictures - before it didn't seem so real...

I expect it to be slow like OWB was in the early days, but I'm sure it will get optimised like OWB was.

BTW, two other pictures you intentionally didn't include:

@DAX

I really hope that you're right, perhaps FF will finally motivate someone to make a decent flash plug-in.

I just wanted to point out, that Firefox itself doesn't magically make flash available for AmigaOS. AFAIK, iBrowse has had a simlair plug-in interface for ages and yet no-one has had the skills or time to do anything creative with it. And no, the current iBrowse flash plug-in doesn't count...

BTW, if it isn't possible to put a scrollbar in the window border itself, then it would be better to get rid of the empty space in the right border, and put it in the bottom border instead, where it could presumably be used for status info or something.

P.S. Now getting peeved at OWB's cursor having disappeared . Looks like time to go back to a previous version again!

Screenshots look nice, but seem to confirm my fears that Firefox is a HUGE resource hog.

Look at the CPU meter in the dock, its pretty much pushing 100% cpu usage on all the shots and the graph is pure colour.

Does it run smoothly or is this going to be a lot slower than OWB?

You honestly can't tell ANYTHING until it is (a) debugged, (b) has debugging disabled (Rogue has said it outputs tons of stuff to serial port), and (c) it is optimised. Don't worry about the CPU meter.

Great news.

@Pecosbil

Like Troels said a few posts above, there is already a bounty for porting Gnash, a flash player, and working as a plugin is part of the bounty. See here for that particular bounty, and here for the page about the project on afxgroup's website (afxgroup being the giy who took on the bounty).

@DAX

Porting Firefox has nothing to do with Flash plugins, and OWB supports NPAPI plugins as well (when the os-dependant backend is implemented, of course).

Isn't the point of gansh to provide a flash like device??

Yes, but it doesn't help much until someone makes a plug-in out of it...

I've tried both gnash and swfdec plug-ins under linux and well...to be honest, they kind of suck at the moment. Some things work while others don't, so there's a _lot_ of work to be done in that area.

They are also quite heavy (even on a fast PC), so you can pretty much forget about things like youtube with the current PPC hardware...at least that was my conclusion, when I tried the MorphOS OWB flash plug-in (beta) on Mac Mini.

Great stuff!

One thing though, if the logo is going to be an animal of some sort wrapped around the boing ball could we please make sure that it looks like a WOLF and not a grey fox!

Foxes have pointy faces...like foxes, wolves don't!

Other than that keep up the good work!

Thanks!

It isn't possible, the scrollbar is part of the web page's layout. It needs to be themeable, too.

I appreciate that a lot of people have issues with the large border, and I tend to agree. We'll be looing into that.

BTW, you might notice the tab bar background is rendered correctly now too. That was also due to the problem with image optimization/caching.
