| What if xorro is retro related. http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=536090&postcount=189
So it would then deliver retro I/O. (catweasel kind of stuff + could be used in automation as well) XenaOnRetRO or something...
Retro market is big I think. Bigger than Amiga market.
ok... I think it's it ...

How many years have passed since Amiga could stare at the eyes of PCs in terms of raw performance? Is it from 1994 of the last big batch of 68k cpus, from 1998/9 from last batch of ppc accelerators (roughly the dates)? If the new board is a dual core 2 Ghz ppc / 64 bit, with 8 GBs max Ram, PCIe, PCIx, HD 7.1 audio, etc, we are talking not only for a fast computer, but for one of the fastest ppc end user desktops on the planet, and a ppc which will and keep up with a high end pc of late 2008 early 2009.
So, the price will be high, there is no question for that. I bet a price range from 1.000 to 1.500 euros, depending on what else each user would like to add to the system (e.g. faster/bigger/more expensive hd(s) + gfx + maximizing the ram + psu + expensive keyboard/mouse, whatever)
The price is not high in my books if the performance is extremely fast. Can you imagine the playback of two 1080p simultaneously, e-uae smooth all the time, absolutely smooth scrolling with owb, hd workbench resolutions? Can you imagine the extreme potentials of such system in software development? The expand-abilities?
I sincerely hope, Hyperion will start donating systems to former amiga individual developers and companies involved with software development in the past. This looks like an opportunity we shouldn't miss.

Possibly the A4000/040 in 1992 when the 486 was mainstream - but even then I think the 486 was available in faster MHz ratings beyond 25MHz still making the PC quicker.
Really the Amiga advantage has been about a combination of things from the custom chipset to the OS rather than pure CPU power._________________ Sam |

those Radeon HD drivers, so hopefully this development will speed up that process (who knows they may help Hans out) and Sam will take advantage of those too |
Absolutely. The SAM will not be a useless product by any means.
Things will get better for SAM users from the halo effect of A-Eon's X Machine. _________________ Sam |

Today we are supposed to learn about custom chipset (and probably the cpu, right?).
I bet this thread is going to explode really soon... _________________

| I think out of all the comments I have read, I think a multicore processor is on the cards and definitely AmigaOS ported to 64bit. Porting AmigaOS to 64bit sounds like an ambitious project to me.
I also feel that they must have a large customer in place that wants these systems on a mass scale. The PVR market is a prime market for such hardware and a good customisable OS (Part of the road map was to make the GUI fully customisable to anything). I remember on many occassions it had been said, by Eyetech & Amiga etc, that they had interested parties in a hardware and software combo.
I fail to see that they would bring out this kind of (IMO expensive) hardware to a niche market of fans that mostly already have some sort of hardware to run the OS. It doesn't make sense otherwise. And remember that they always said that getting an interested party would make it feasible and cheaper to provide some hardware. Last edited by choochy on 04-Jan-2010 at 11:07 AM.
