I think from the fact the the picture on the a-eon site contains 3 XCore processors(the G1, G2 and G4), it means that you will have a choice at purchase. They probably mentioned the G1 as a base model. One core can probably run what you want in a threaded manner, just slower than if you had 4 cores.

Guys can you imagine what we can do with OpenCL+102000 Mips of "Transputer-like" power? ^___^

On the CPU they say we will see different configurations so a 2GHZ Dual core will be the first (2Ghz is my guess after Trevor comments above) but sky is the limit at this point (for example if it is the Titian, AMCC has a QuadCore with 2MB of cache down the line, could even be clocked at 2.5Ghz with shrinking die sizes).

And it is a whole computer not just a Mobo, the AmigaOne X1000 who would have thought it possible a while back!

Sorry, how can I know that? I have nothing to do with the developement... The only thing I know is, that I'll have to sell my wife, to get the AmigaOne X1000 at the first day it comes out.

@ddni

Yes, please. Anyone take a photo of the case of the new Amiga or is it going to on CES 2010 and would you like to keep it secret until?

The XMOS stuff is very interesting certainly, I just hope that it takes off and we get some mainstream takers of this. It would be nice if such users chose to use AOS as well but my gut instinct would be that they would chose the Linux route as the more industry established platform.

I'm still interested to know details of the multi core implementation in AmigaOS and how well compatibility has been maintained. It'd be nice to see the case as well, given that we've already seen a snippet

The XS1-G4 has four XCore tiles with up to 32 software threads, 1600 total MIPS, 256 KBytes of single cycle memory and a high performance switch interconnect.

The XS1-G2 has two XCore tiles with up to 16 software threads, 800 total MIPS, 128 KBytes of single cycle memory and a high performance switch interconnect.

The energy-efficient XS1-L1 has one XCore tile with up to eight software threads, 400 total MIPS and 64 KBytes of single cycle memory.

EDIT: PowerPC 440EP in SAM does 1,334 Dhrystone MIPS @ 667 MHz
EDIT: I still don't know if the MIPS are measured the same, but it gives you a ballpark figure.
EDIT: They're all RISC processors so I hazard a guess that they are comprable on MIPS measurement. Make of this what you will.

@TheDaddy
RealTime raytracing can be done with GP-GPU (or those 102.000 mips ) all you need is the software that handles it and a powerfull Video Card on PCI-E 16X.

The potential is there.

There was a time when we had great hardware as well as a great Operating System, and with the AmigaOne X1000, we can finally say that time is come again.

Bravo!! Who's producing this board, will it ship with OS4.1/2, when will it arrive and at what cost? These are the key questions now!

-But seriously - ATX form factor? Why not something along the lines of mini-itx instead? I don't want to even imagine the monster case machine will have, while the only excuse is going to be - but you have got high-end Amiga in it, so it has to be big. It is a pity, because I thought it would be fun to have X500 (A500 like) machine too ...

I don't agree. It is great hardware. It is expensive. I want something everybody sees when he enters our living-room. A stylish big tower it will be for me.

Hidden message in the page"6.html", after the text "SAM motherboard, it is this return of AmigaOS to the high-end that truly ushers in a new beginning". Also inside the html code of this page.

We'll have a proper website before too long, when we've got more to tell you. No more yellow and black colour scheme either, if I have anything to do with it, I promise. That was one of the hints -- and believe me, by now I'm royally sick of it. ;^)

So, we'll initially have roughly 4000MIPS (perhaps a little less) CPU core gor AOS4.x use. And on linux one gets SMP.

And the CPU and case can not be shown yet.

I bet it will be shown in CES?
Right?

Is the manufacturer from outside normal PPC industry?

@DAX

Hold your horses, man. The provided XCore provides 400 MIPS not 102000 MIPS. That's the power of half an efika. You *may* expand the system to more cores reaching highr numbers, but so you can with most computers. Need more power, just build a cluster or put in a PCI8e) card with according processors. These days you*re best off with offloading heavy calculations to some gfx processors.
So I see this Xcore thing rather as some kind of toy, but neither revolutional nor very promising. The biggest question is: How can it be utilized from the OS4 side?

Given what's stated on the X1000 page, I was thinking it would be higher than the 1.6Ghz the "designers" are running it at... And since you're the one who knows, I'll take your word for it!

Oops, I meant 1.6ghz. Higher than 1.6ghz?
