Right, man... this X1000 sounds damn good, mate.

Hope A-Eon + Hyperion have proper business plans to use the potential this machine seems to have. At the moment it sounds like it is another desktop with "hammer" features, but I think it will be hard to open up a market here. We do need a "Killer application", or have to see some other things we (the average desktop user) never seen before... but maybe they also aim at another market, or have something else in mind, and we are only a "side market"

What so ever... I tried to find out something about A-Eon, some questions came up:

Who is behind A-Eon ?
- Ben Hermans
- Robert Trevor Dickinson (alias "TrevorDick")
- Anthony Moorley
somebody else ? staff ?

WHO IS ANTHONY MOORLEY ?
Seems like TrevorDick and A.Moorley are linked via Geolink International Limited as sharholders. But what has this to do with Amiga ?

Some more Infos and Question about Geolink...
Seems like Geolink (UK) Limited deals with "Measurement techniques" while doing drilling (gas & oil exploration), can you give a short example @TrevorDick ? Geolink was aquired by Sondex later on, this one was then aquired by GE. The reason I am asking is more or less a personal viewpoint. Are you a Geoscientist TrevDick ? I am...
BTW GE used to have a Geographic Information System (GIS) called "Smallworld", maybe they can port that one to X1000 (just kidding..)

Who produced the X1000 ?
Who is designing the case ?
Does A-Eon aim at other markets as well ?
What is your vision, where can you get a X1000 in 2 years time ? Can I buy it in a supermarket ?
Or do I have to contact suppliers for camera and TV stuff ?

Some more questions to TrevorDick...
Why are you based in NZ/Wellington as well as in London ?
Are you a Kiwi ? What is your job right now ?

Thanks for Infos..

The case might be designed by silicontkx as they are listed on Acube site as a patner on this page http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=company and it says:-

STx can help customize a solution around SAM440EP for you application with mini-ITX accessories including custom or standard cases , power supplies, cables, LCDs, radios, and software. STx can provide local support and logistics services for your SAM440EP application.

@gerograph

I can only speak for myself really but,

I am an long time Amiga enthusiast and Commodore/Amiga collector. I purchased my first home computer in 1981, the year my first daughter was born. It was a CBM PET 4032 (the computer not the daughter). I "upgraded" to a C64, C128 and finally an A2000 in 1989. During the 1990's I used A2000, A3000 and A4000's in my business for production of publicity material video editing and technical manuals. These days I write articles and reviews for "Amiga Future" some of which have also appeared on "Obligement" website. I also write the "Amiga Retrospective" series which has evolved into someting like "War & Peace - Part 2". I have just emailed Part 17 entitled "The Never-ending (Amiga) Story" to the publishers.

Did I say I collect Commodore and Amiga computers?

Most people, when they first meet me, think I'm reasonably sane. I tend not to talk about my Amiga obsession, unless I've had a few drinks . I probably have over 160 computers in my basement. Did I say my wife locks me in the basement? I collect everything Amiga related and have A1's, SAM's, Pegasos's and Efika's in my collection. I also have an iMica Atom and an Ares One which are both Icaros Desktop/Ubuntu 9.10 systems. I still use Windows and have worked hard to like Linux. I'm getting there, at least I can buy Linux magazines in the newsagents.

Did I say I was obsessed?

Tony is my "business" partner and we have worked together in several successful business ventures over the past 35 years. I once introduced him to a prospective customer as my "partner who lives with me when I am in Aberdeen". Tony made things worse by quickly blurting out "only when our wives let us!" These days he is definitely my business partner.

My wife once read that there is a very fine line between hobby and mental illness. I never really understood what that meant? That's where Tony comes in. He is not a computer enthusiast but, hopefully, he will keep me sane, and on the business "straight and narrow".

TrevorD

PS we are both British and started life as Geologists --------------------we got better

and for the puzzle enthusiasts:-

AEON, EON (both geological terms) A-EON, A-ONE

Your "oily" connections in WA are safe with me. Thanks to both of you for putting your money where your mouths are so to speak.

What does it feel like to be rich? :p lol.. Just kidding :)

I'm a collector too, but my collection pales in comparison to yours.. I've only got a small room to keep my stuff in but have 20-30 amigas and lots of related stuff. I think the most unusual thing I have is one of the A2631 Prototypes. I did have an A1 in the collection until recently, but it's dead now :(

Out of interest, where do you get all your stuff from? ebay, the community or just general looking around?

Lots of money in Oil. And when you have made your money what do you do with it? Buy a sports car? Buy a Football Club, or fund a development hobbyist motherboard.....

All signs of a midlife crisis, but hey luckily for us TrevorDick's midlife crisis is the latter...

@TrevorDick

Now that you mention it - your Amiga history piece in Amiga Future is amazing reading - well worth the price of the magazine alone!

Always looking forward to the next part - and it seems like you might be shaping the final chapters yourself!

Mostly off eBay, but also from AmigaWorld classifieds and sometimes MorphZone.

Seriously - no need for being modest. I would like to see the entire series being compiled to a book at one point. I remembered a lot from reading and found out some new things as well! Perhaps it should come with each X1000?

Actually - you just reminded me to preorder the next issue of Amiga Future!

I should think that a lot of AmigaOnes should be available in the coming month... I would probably been looking to sell mine when the X1000 arrives...

The price will dump by then, I know, but unlike Trevor I don't have a basement for computers!

I had discussed the possibility with "Amiga Future" about putting a book together of the whole series (German & English) including pictures, illustrations and reference but we were unsure whether anyone would want to read it let alone buy it!

It is good that you are making time to comment about your new business. Thankyou.
The word "Soon" is too vague for me though
It would be easier to deal with "soon" if there was a context as to why it is not now

Will there be any clarification on the ?case segment which is floating around the forum?

And believe you me I am desperate for the world to know! Sorry, I've been writing "Amiga Retrospective" for far to long.

I really want to spill the beans but all I can say is the information will be released "soon" and hopefully when it is you will understand our reasons for the delay?
