I like the case, specially if it is a boing ball in Engraved into the tower, I managed to see this case used at the Gadget show, and I can tell you its ultra quite and that's for a powerful pc with huge multiple fans which I would image the AmigaOne wont really need.

It looks like a nice PC case.

The one thing I think they perhaps should of been added to the pictures released by a-eon, is the words "concept", to just make it a little clearer that this is not the final pics. Maybe to shut a few people up the real photo should be uploaded.

Yea, it's bizarre. Seems like it would be a lot more work trying to photoshop that motherboard into the stock photo of that case than just taking a picture of it. Makes one wonder if they really have their main board into the case at all. Why not just put up a real picture of the thing? I doubt anybody would critique the lighting and they're be no reason for anybody to insinuate that it's fake.

Nice avatar by the way.

I think we'd both agree that there's no way to make everyone happy with any single design for a board, case, or kb, though I see no reason why a case can't be different colors.

Yes, that is kind of my point. Take as much of the negative feedback as possible and turn it into sections. We would appeal to demographic X if we offered it in colour Y with shape Z type of information. Then you decide whether that demographic makes business sense to appeal to in the first place.

Quote:

The only real solution is to sell a system piece by piece & let ppl choose their own case/kb.

I disagree. I think you could do this hobbyist pack that is just the mobo, and it might even sell well. But I think its more important to establish a brand. Part of the reason Apple sold so well is because of the "emotion" design work. This isn't quite in that league but establishing base principles, something that people can look at and think "Amiga" is a vital first step.

Quote:

I don't think a-eon wants to produce a hacker system, they want to put out a system that ppl will recognize when they see it, just like you would a Sony product. Those that want to save money can wait for the new SAM.

And there we agree.

@koft

Amiga Personal Computer case.

(unlike, for example, my current A4000 case or SAM case, that are just PC cases with some DIY moddings)

@thread

The CF slot will be a little bit difficult to access, is it not?

The CPU has been blanked out, I assume they are trying to create mystery out of it. Perhaps the one they have in the case at the moment isn't final. Either way, I suspect they had to open up photoshop anyhow. Shame they didn't use something like TVPaint, ImageFX or Photogenics

@KimmoK

I have a mobo with a CF slot, but to be able to boot from it or even see it you need to flash the BIOS. That wasn't evident in the advertising, literature or reviews at the time. I hope there are no features that aren't accessable on release or that will be very irritating. Its important to establish a core of goodwill at the start.

@DaveP

If the CPU/SoC is not final, it means total redesign of the board with another SoC.

IMHO, I think we have so far seen only one "earlybird" of nemo developer board.

I think the xena socket is unpopulated, that's why it's a blanked spot.
So far DIMM slots have been unpopulated in pictures.
So far CPU cooler has not been mounted in pictures, why not?

Perhaps the nemo in those public pictures is a broken prototype.

If it's so. Can we rely that ATI/AMD SB600 is there for real?

"I hope there are no features that aren't accessable on release"

Futile hope /me thinks. The second core of the PA6T will be inaccessible initially.
I'm sure it's pretty impossible to support everything on board initially, there just is so insane amount of features (in SoC, in SB, in GPU, in Xena/xorro) to support.

@TrevorD

Perhaps the next is the time to show real pictures with x1000+somebalddeveloper(s)+AOS4 on monitor.

Have you planned to give "nice" nic names for other chips than just the xena?
Giant for the CPU?
Ruby for the GPU?
???? for the southbridge?

Yeah, a door is a good thing. I wish my A4000T had an intact door Has anyone got a spare bezel kit hanging around?

Nice insult of people, where most are even members at this (AW.net) very site.

This is not to be taken seriously. This is a play on Chris' hate on Moobunny. I frequent Moo, so I guess it's OK to say Moo is the pit of the Internet, but doing the same for Amigans is not OK? Because you like one and you dislike another? See?

Ah, opi, come on, you know it: By law of nature Moo is the dark side and Amigans is the bright side. And you like it that way, don't you?

I don't know who frequent Moobunny these days and I don't care. I remember how it was back in the days and never felt like visiting it ever since.

I wasn't aware that Chris was talking about Moo and no I don't think it's clever to give any website that definition unless you intend to insult people.

@Trevor
Overall I like the design.
- I don't like the silver feet
- I don't like the (photoshopped) AmigaOne X1000 logo

Black feet for the tower and a small logo embedded at the bottom of the front (with embedded I mean like the Boing Ball.)

Please supply with a good quality cordless mouse and keyboard

You can add a missing nvram battery to that list, as well as a very odd "video card" (it's lacking any monitor connectors, you can see the ground plane for the motherboard screw hole on both sides of the video card PCB's bracket edge).

Also, while the motherboard photo may have been taken inside a case, it most certainly was not taken from a working machine --- the power connectors are empty, as are the front panel ones (and you need at least the power button connection :) And while local storage is not necessarily a must[1], having a disk in the case doesn't do much good without a SATA cable connecting it to the motherboard.

[1]: I currently do linux kernel development; My test machine is net-booted, and has zero local storage --- so that I need not worry about corruption from the frequent kernel panics.

For those who are interested these are the actual photos, taken by the hardware developers, of the Nemo motherboard installed in the case.

thank you very much for including this. now we can put some of the FUD to rest.

and given the photo quality, now i understand the photoshopping.

Thanks for that Trevor, I can understand why you "transposed" another picture of the motherboard, the original is slightly out of focus.
