@Daniel

Marko Hirv was the designer of the original Amiga Fantasy case who actually had given myself, Hombre and GazSP permission to take it further (back around 2005-2006) in which we failed due to the MicroA1 no longer being developed (at that time). Hombre tweaked the original AF design in various revisions (which were absolutely beautiful) and actually designed one case specifically for the SAM440, but that's where everything stalled. I was contacted a few weeks ago about our work and that's pretty much it from there.

No. I just hate people selling junk using name that used to mean something.

@persia

Ah ok, it must be because I'd been watching a TV programme about Amish teenagers!

@opi

Do you think the C500 will necessarily be junk if it's well-built and stays close enough to the rendering?

I'm talking about screenless laptops. C500, vapor. I can discuss it when we'll see something.

Yes, that is the problem the way I see it too.

In the glory Amiga days there was no sutch thing as wireless equpement.
If people want something to connect to their TV it should be a box hided near the TV and a wireless mouse and keyboard to use from where you sit.
I don't see much use in a Computer designed like the C-64 or A-1200 in 2010.
There is probably no expansion possible. If you like other keyboard, it would be difficult.
For something portable most like to have a screen with it. Laptop, netbook.

I still like it though :)

Easy to bring everywhere. The keyboard got Amiga keys etc.

@BigBentheAussie

iwin-amiga.de was a nice site.

Q: What company uses domains by proxy for a registrar and godaddy for a host?

A: A fake one

I could outdo that Commodore USA Web site in 2 hours, and I totally suck at web design. The whole thing is a $20 for domain registration and economy hosting plan from godaddy hoax. I have a hard time believing 6 pages worth of people have been sucked in.

@A3K

There are some seriously cynical people around here. I've been here for around a year now and haven't seen a single scam but you guys think everything new is a scam. From the x1000 to this Commodore thing. What the heck happened to you guys that made you so cynical (or should I ask)?

Call me a sucker but I think what these guys are doing is pretty neat.

That depends which Commodore you are talking about. The Commodore that made the C64 or the Amiga?

For the C64 sure, since the 6502 was like an x86. But works like a PPC.

Quote:
They might even have gone straight from 68K to x86 without ever passing through PPC in the first place.

On the Amiga? No, I don't think so. No 68k applications would have worked. The whole OS would have had to be recoded. And the Amiga was no PC.

It would have been some other RISC CPU like a HP RISC or PA RISC. Whatever it was called. Or an Alpha. Something big endian. Little endian woukld not get in the door.

Even now it's still too hard to run 68K on x86. AROS still can't do it. Not fully at least. Imagine trying to do this back then.

Comes with territory.

You can't really judge correctly after a year. We have long tradition of BS products: iWin, Melarnica (or whatever that was called), Shark, PoverVixxen, Troika'05 (the number is random!), Panda, Walker. We had a nice thread that listed all the BS we've been fed over the years.

The "Commodore" USA raises a lot of red flags, from content "borrowing" to "rebranding failed designs" ending at "license to use Commodore name". In last few years the only company that gained my trust where ACube.

Add BoXeR and the Amiga MCC to that vapourware list. Going back even further the Commodore Amiga 1300 (A1200 with a CD32 drive on the side).

Eyetech delivered for a while, although the quality of their products wasn't the best in my experience.

ACube are a rare asset in the Amiga market and a refreshing change for the better.

I don't blame anyone for their skepticism.
If I wasn't personally involved I probably wouldn't believe it either.
I am confident that in a year from now things will look entirely different.
Whether we can ever win your trust, I don't know.
I hope so. We'll be judged on what we deliver and we're fine with that.

It isn't exactly brain-surgery to do what we're intending to do, so I'm confident we'll be successful in at least some, if not all of our plans.
This is a new beginning, as respectful to both Commodore and Amiga's legacy as humanly possible, but with a future focus too in the spirit of fun and nostalgia.
In order to have a future we need to do things a little differently to what people are used to and break free from some legacy constraints.
This will inevitably draw the usual criticism from those in the community who are more set in their mindset. People don't like change but if you don't you can't grow.
If you keep doing the same thing and keep getting the same result, (ie stagnation and failure) is that not the definition of insanity.
So we must do things a little differently to go forward.

The last couple of weeks have been a roller coaster ride for myself and as you learn what is happening, we hope you will share in our our excitement along with our vision to bring Commodore to the forefront of the computing world once again.
It's a major undertaking, to be sure, and we'll surely make mistakes or decisions you won't agree with.
But at the end of the day we're fans like you, who have come together to give it a really good go.
If we didn't love it and think we could do it justice, we wouldn't have expended the efforts regarding the trademark.
I agree that the website is disgusting but it will suffice for the moment and it allows us to get things up quickly and gauge people's reactions.
There'll be a beautiful interactive one in due course, but one thing at a time.
Things are kicking into overdrive behind the scenes, which is the most important thing right now.
Things are just starting to come together and we're trying to involve you all in this challenging and exciting journey from the beginning. We're reaching out to you and communicating, and believe it or not we are listening to all your concerns and adapting where we feel we need to.

@BigBentheAussie

Is anyone from the "old Commodore/Amiga" involved in the project?

Btw, what is Comodo OS(from the Commodore USA site)? Based on some linux distro or?

No, but it's still early days, but we'll see.

It's a kid friendly linux distro with internet filtering built in so parents can feel safe letting their kids online.

@BigBentheAussie

You do get a plus for posting in the General Technology section and not pretending to be Amiga or the original Commodore. In the end 99% is perception and looking around at other sites people want to believe in the Commodore name. Please don't do to the Commodore name what the folks did to the Packard Bell name.

PC Clone resellers are a dime a dozen, but I think it helps that Barry has the China connection already worked out with his furniture business, what are your plans to distinguish yourselves from the other resellers out there? Wh would I buy a product from the New Commodore rather than ASUS or ACER or Cybernet or ...?
