If they have a valid trademark deal, they are legally dealing with this name.
Who stopped Hyperion, acube, a-eon,... into making a similar deal?

Name raping with money making and producing real Amiga experience for the community are totally different kind of things.
Hyperion cares for the later, you seem to care for the first.

I would choose not to answer this but if I were you I'd consider just how much hyperion is making me pay for that amiga experience.

EXCUSE ME... Ah.. sorry about that.. but Im afraid its Started. http://www.elektor.com/news/welcome-back-commodore-c64.1514707.lynkx this is a pretty majour European and UK electronics magazine, thats has various PIC and electronics articles, including how to build them, alond with advetrts for programmers, an XGameStation etc. To my best knowledge, they have Never shown MiniMig, Natami, there has been No reviews or comparisons against XGameStation etc, there has been No mention of AOnes, SAms, or evn the AXK. And yet, within a couple days of the new bustup, over Names and Advertising, this widely read electroncis magazine is exitedly announcing the return of the Commodore name, etc etc. Amiga is the V2000 to these guys ink blots on paper take, and we are going to LOSE as they bring out their VHS. These days, its all about who can LIE the most convincingly, and given that AInc is still going, they are second best only to Microsoft and Apple. there is No point trying to talk to AInc, the only way to deal with them, is to Buy Them Out, and Crush Them. they wish to live by the philosophy of Microsoft, they can only be destroyed by the philosphy of Microsoft.

This is exactly what I've been talking about. The name Commodore is still a POWERFUL magnet.

It only shows that mr. Altman has at least some business sense in him.

And another thing to consider. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a number of investors lining up for this PC64 deal. Now he only needs to produce them, offcourse, with quality to match the name

That may be more in line with "-the- thing to consider" as opposed to "another thing". heh.

Yes, the name Commodore has a fair amount goodwill associated with it. I just hope they offer something practical instead of the silly computers in a keyboard. I'd love an all-in-one like an iMac with a touch screen...

Why would they do the same thing others already do? What novelty would they bring to the table?
At least with the C64 or Amiga cases they have an obvious unique selling point. There's nothing like that in the market. It could be big. They just have to get it done properly.

I have to say I don't have any understanding of why someone would want to buy a generic PC that just has some name (e.g. Commodore or Amiga) stuck to it. If that's the case then buy a generic PC & make your own label to stick on it. The result will be exactly the same!

To be honest, my first though is that you are trying to wind people up (just to get a reaction), but I try to treat people at face value unless there is evidence otherwise...

Like I said, if it's nicely done and nicely designed and I can be productive with it, I'll buy a branded PC, no matter the name. Hence, going by that logic, I'll buy a PC branded Commodore or Amiga. Like I said many times, I'm no hard-core amigan.

For those wanting a more Amiga like retro solution, go for X1000 or Sam4x0, or possibly a x86 Amiga with AROS, iMica, AresOne...

5 is just a number. indicating bigger OS change than 0.x numbers.
(IMO. 64bit, ASMP, MP, x86 are so big features that it is worth the bigger number change .... and perhaps separate unstable R&D branch for many years to come)

Hyperion always emphasised that they will not port the AmigaOS to x86 - so there will be no x86 version.
As for the version number it's up to them what number they choose.
What do you mean with "MP"?
And what is ASMP meant to mean?

You mean "licensing"? There are people that would say Hyperion is "raping" AmigaOS name. As long it's being licensed we're just guys on forums, arguing. I won't change a squat.

No. Both are businesses, one you like, the other you don't. I don't like it, too. Unless C= is doing something illegal you have no case against them.

You don't know that. Hyperion is OK with another "prepay for a beta board".

They're in for a mess now probably, regarding the X1000 launch...

Why should they?
What mess are you talking about?
Those, who wanted to buy the A1X1000 (like me) will buy it nevertheless - regardless of Commodores old idea of AIOs - this time with Intel inside.
And those who were moaning from the beginning that the A1X1000 is way too expensive for them won't.
Easy as that - nothing changed so far by Commodores announcement.

Its just that the fanboys of names now seem to get something that possibly serves their needs.

Those who wanted tha AmigaOS on x86 will be disappointed if they're name fans - there obviously will be no x86-AmigaOS.
Just the x86 Amiga-like OS AROS - but that has been around a couple of years now and even has its own hardware: AresOne.
Commodore not necessarily required here...

WolfToTheMoon wrote:

Can't say I feel much sympathy because it's a mess themselves are responsible for. Even without this announcement, the first thing I thought when I read about X1000 was - FAIL!

I have no idea where your resentment against Hyperion stems from - but know rather precisely where my resentment against AInc/McBill (and all endeavours where they're somehow involved in) originated.

Well is it just the brand that you like or the Aros on x86 hardware, because if you forget the great work done by the Aros developers, Pascal and I have been working on making this a reality for nearly two years with the IMICA and AresOne projects.

No old historic brand name but ready to buy now and play with, all this time we quietly went about getting drivers ready and showing the world when it was ready via YouTube.

I look forward to seeing videos of the new "Commodore Amiga" on x86 running natively.

Hopefully, inside a Commodore Amiga 500 case.

The suggestion to go AROS/iMica/AresOne was for those not wanting to buy new x86 C= Amigas. I didn't try to compare which solution is more retro. I should have written Amiga-like...

I'll not be using my x86 Commodore/Amiga as a retro computer. I intend to do on them all the things I do on my PC/laptop now + emulating old stuff if I choose to do so, with the added coolness of a retro case and nice memories of the 80s and 90s it will evoke in me.

And I intend to enjoy them as much as I can

Its just that "Commodore" isn't the Commodore you seem to believe they are.
And AInc is not Amiga - they only have the right so sell licenses to this name.
As far as I understood it, only the classic line of Amiga computers can be called "Amigas" so far.
