How is that going to work with Sam460 already being there for lower cost OS4 users?

any mention of a mobile amigaone in the future?

i don't know -- but he just mentioned that the next generation (if any) would focus on getting the cost down. not any more than that was said. at least that i remember.

he did, however, say that he personally would like to see an OS4 laptop. something that i very, very, very much would like to see. i've been obsessed about building a portable SAM for a while now, but a professionally manufactured notebook, oh yeah!

he didn't say he would be behind such an effort, just that he, as a user, would like to see one happen and that he estimated that others would as well.

@thread

hopefully a podcast of the roundtable will be posted sooner rather than later and everyone can catch up.

@exec

1. You can buy commodore case and a x1000 and see if you can do some work putting the x1000 board inside the commodore case. But then you want x86 so question 2 is also answered. How can they plan for x86 if the fail PPC when x1000 sale public havent started yet.

@Kicko

please don't feed the t.... the... t... t...
just don't provoke a flame, let's have a clean topic here without any C=USA/AROS/x86 tussle

EDIT : The above is slightly irrelevant cos Kicko changed his post upside down ;)

Several times T.D. stated that actions were louder than words and,
in keeping with that philosophy, his focus is closer to the Now.

Probably needs a new crystal ball.

it wasn't anything i would want to commercialize. just a homebrew thing.

basically i wanted a portable, wireless OS4 box i could use on a train or while lying down. i got as far as building the bezel for the display, getting the LCD display itself and a controller with a VGA feed-in, and found some nice (but expensive) hinges, but no farther. the biggest issue was wireless. even with an L-extender for the PCI slot the height was just too big for the lower section. and of course i wasn't planning on putting a battery in 'er, just using a picoPSU and plugging in. that having been said, with the SAM440ep (not the flex), there is tons of room. i was planning on integrating an SSD and slim-line DVD drive as well. with the hinges and display -- and using a regular hard drive just for this purpose -- it came in at nearly nine pounds.

more of a SAM portable than a SAM notebook!

if i ever get it farther along i'll post photos here, but i think the best example of a 'portable' SAM thus far was the touchscreen unit built by the redoubtable simon archer some time ago.

with the z196 GA behind me now i might have time on the weekends to try and finish it to show at amiwest, but i really doubt it.

i would definitely bet on trevor funding one of these before i even finished my little homebrew project. especially as i no longer have access to a good router setup.

I haven't checked with Acube but the Sam440ep should be able to drive the LCD directly, unfortunately yours is not likely to have the require LVDS connector on the motherboard.

I cannot speak for the others - just for myself.
And I do not have "to wake up to AROS".
I kept an eye on it since the project was launched years ago.
Its just that its not mature enough to be useful to me when I looked at it last time.

nice program, interesting listening exp and some interesting things mentioned (e.g. about linux distros for x1000 and linux users interest in x1000 + xmos example app(?) bundled with x1000 on which someone close to XMOS Ltd. works), keep up the good work Trevor

...viva polonia ;)

Hmmm....

So, linux-amiga haters, what do you have to say on that now?

@WolfToTheMoon

maybe there are some linux haters here but if i am concerned i'm amused when somebody say we should replace amigaos/aros with ubuntu-like distro. Trevor thinks wise that some up to date Linux-distro should be available on all 'amiga' platforms, wheter it is x1000, sam or the mentioned amiga-laptop, which is a dream i hope to be realised sometime in the future. Linux is able to bring new tired-of-x86-users to a new machine, that's all.

Nothing, they will run AmigaOS4.x in their X1000. Those like me, who need or want to use Linux sometimes or for a specific task won't have to use a pc just for that.

HUH!

Linux on X1000 ? Hooray!

I think you have some crossed wires. We (I) don't want to *replace* our OS with Linux.

Both have been residing on amigas for a long time.
