Well, hoax seems to be complete:

A names of original Commodore Amiga computers will be used,
as well as Workbench name for the Ubuntu theme. Nice retro feel
that could be achieved by using Linux + AmiKit + licence for OS 3.9
would be more realistic. But let them do their job.

However, at list slightly different naming then original Commodore
computers would be most welcome (e.g. Commodore USA Amiga x3000)
since it also brings the question did Amiga Inc rights are for one All In One
computer and/or for orginal Amiga 500,2000,3000,4000 brands.Also, I can
suppose that more or less it will be a variable of one All In One model
with more RAM, hard drive etc. slight change of components.

However, while I am not good into trademarks, my understanding
is that Workbench 5 falls under Hyperion settlement as of Amiga OS 4
(its components) and beyond.

Also, alert to the moderators how to deal with this pre-realise marketing
and the future possibilities of flooding AW.net as CBM USA forum or promotion
having in mind previous voting

There are three ways to go about it.

1. UAE on top of Linux.
You can run classic applications.

2. Style X-Windows to look like workbench
You can only run linux programs, and shell and start-up scripts are all linux.

3. API wrappers like WINE, you build lots of .so whit the same api used under AmigaOS, programs recompiled run using this new api, the api is then translates into native linux api’s.

Option 3 This is extremely complicated and takes is a lot of work, there has been some failed projects before.

What usually happens is one man starts a project it does not quite work out, after some time people forget about it, or project just deftest to become something totally different.

We had a lot pre-release and vapour marketing here, I don't think the moderators should act in a complete different way to C=USA. If C=USA has bought the name license from the legal IP owner, they might have the same rights using them like any other company that has bought it.

Maybe there has nothing left that could be called "Amiga Spirit" Amiga was Hard- and Software, it was cheap and fast and there was a big community of users, artists and developers around it. No one who now including Natami or AROS could replace what has gone when this "Amiga Spirit" faded away.

IIRC Cloanto acquired the rights to use "Workbench" in this context, then it could be an issue.

Judging by the "OS" description page (i read it before it's put offline) it's just a Linux distro with custom look and UAE (or AROS) + VICE preinstalled.
I believe it is VICE because they listed C64/128, VIC20 and PET as the emulated machines.

If you're hoping for Anubis, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Can you see them taking a stock Chinese motherboard, a copy of a 1980s computer case, and then developing a brand-new, cutting-edge Amiga-like OS to run on it? No way.

If they manage anything more interesting than a re-skinned Ubuntu, I'll eat my hat. We'll be lucky if they bother to ask permission for the desktop background.

Sorry Tomas - AROS does have a 'Workbench screen'. Like on AmigaOS, you'll see it written in the titlebar if you're using an application with no menus - the shell, for example.

I thought it was called Wanderer or something along those lines?? If it has Workbench in it then they are breaking the law as well, which i doubt is the case anyways.

Either way big difference to use workbench as a name for a OS...
