OS4 on A500? I don´t know if it is realy cool or completely insane.

No, but OS 1.3-3.1 KS licensing which is now Hyperions job. With possibility to go beyond in future.
Not a 68k OS 4.1

Quote:
Brussels, March 9th, 2013: today, Hyperion Entertainment CVBA (Belgium) and Individual Computers GmbH (Germany) have signed a license agreement for use of Kickstart 1.3 and Kickstart 3.1 ROMs in processor accelerators for Amiga 500, Amiga 1000, Amiga 2000 and Amiga 2500. In addition to the binary license, Hyperion will grant Individual Computers access to the source code of the IDE driver for further development which may facilitate installation of AmigaOS 4.1 and beyond. The first product to make use of this license will be the entry-level accelerator for Amiga 500 called "ACA500": With both Kickstart images in the flashrom of this product, the user will benefit from best compatibility with floppy-based and CF/harddisk-based software. Further, the flashrom of ACA500 will contain the FAT95 filesystem, which allows accessing PC-formatted CF cards in the second CF card slot of the ACA500. Automatic mounting software will eliminate the need for a complicated installtion procedure. Special thanks go to the author of FAT95 Torsten Jager, who has put his work under LGPL per our request.

@number6

I wonder if NSD64 is going to be the offical standard instead of TD64 at individual computers from now on.

ACA500 allows to use A1200 accellerators in A500 (and similar hardware), in theory also Blizzard603e/BVision with OS4...

I'd really like to know as fact whom Hyperion got their licence from ???

Could be quite interesting (for personal reasons) as to whom the entity that issued said licence actually is...

Naturaly, this makes such licence consistent with September 30 Settlement Agreement.

@amigang

Why do people miss small interesting advancements?

This is the part I actually like, beside having accelerators for Classics still produced

Nice news.

"for use of Kickstart 1.3 and Kickstart 3.1 ROMs in processor accelerators for Amiga 500, Amiga 1000, Amiga 2000 and Amiga 2500. "

I would love to enchance my A2000 one day...

"facilitate installation of AmigaOS 4.1"
PPC accelerators from Individual Computers would be very nice.
(PPC+GPU+SATA+USB+RAM combo)

. . . or "Frankenthousand-ish" Man, that would be the ultimate tour d'force: run OS4.1 on an A1000. I really regret selling Frankenthousand now.

@HammerD

I don't what some people smoke. It must be certainly good stuff.

I just read two unconnected things:
1.- Jens has licensed kickstart 1.3 and 3.1 to bundle with ACAs
2.- Jens has access to scsi.device changes so his Idefix & Idefix Express works with next OS4.x versions. ACA's IDE is based on Buddha so this is pretty useless for ACAs.

How some people mix these two isolated facts and come to conclussions like "ZOMG ACA+BlizzardPPC+OS4.1 on A500!!!1111" or "Jens is going to release PPC accelerators!!!111" makes me wonder why some people don't use all that imagination to write conspiracy novels.

If memory serves...they got it from the settlement deal with AInc.

Various licenses were reconfirmed in a 2011 agreement between Cloanto Italia srl and Amiga, Inc. (Delaware). These include the right to sublicense, and are not limited to emulation purposes.

For maximum public clarity, assignments of Commodore-Amiga copyrights up to Amiga ROM and OS version 3.0 (i.e. excluding Amiga OS 3.1 and Amiga Anywhere copyrights) to Cloanto Italia srl were also deposited at the US Copyright Office in 2011 and 2012. This was in addition to the existing licenses. More specifically, the licenses over the Amiga OS 3.1 copyrights to Cloanto Italia srl remain in effect (even without an additional, explicit copyright assignment).

@JurassicC

What do you have against fat95? CrossDosFileSystem for m68k is outdated and buggy (at least compared to Fat95). A friend of mine stopped using external USB HDs with OS4 on his uA1 because it corrupted his HD again and again. I guess/hope it's fixed now. Corruption never happened in my amigas&morphos machines with fat95.

I would also like PFS3 in kickstart but since the board includes a FlashRom I guess you'll be able to reflash it with the rom modules of your choice. If you prefer to use CrossDosFileSystem you'll be free to use it.

It would really be nice to have NTFS / FAT32 support included in AmigaOS (update 7 or OS 4.2)
as well as EXT4 in at least read mode

@vox

Since Joerg Strohmayer considers TD64 a "bug" and forced OS4 developers to remove all TD64 support from devices despiting it already worked I highly doubt OS4 Team have any interest in making life of OS4 users easier reverting changes that removed TD64 support so TD64 filesystems like NTFS/ext2 works OOTB.
