Hi Amigans, I want to notify you that someone has nominated Natami on Wikipedia for deletion!

Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page.

(EDIT: don't shoot the messenger )

@Bugala

Who cares, Natami is not dependent on anything that requires publicity. They`ll get all the wiki pages they want when it`s out the door.

@Panthro

Yeah, tis stupid policy on wikipedia that it needs to be notable.

Natami is notable amnong notable hobbiest group, that should be enough.

If i would for first time now jump to Amiga and I would hear people talking of Natami, I would like to find it from Wikipedia.

Someone should make competitive pedia for wikipedia that would be happy for things notable for some subgroup.

For example, I would be interested in wikipage telling about local music bands that there have been in this town of 10 000 people. However, surely its not notable enough for wikipedia since none of them have break through, but it still wouldnt change the fact that there would be plenty of people in this town who would like to read a page like that, and not only today, but even 100 years later.

Problem is if you don't enforce a notability policy, there's a danger that Wikipedia becomes a vanity platform. What's to stop me creating a massive, overdetailed page about my band that's only done one gig to about twelve people? And individual pages for all the band members with detailed biographies? And a page about a project that we're kind of talking about starting, maybe when (if ever) our lead singer comes off shifts? Or my wonderful pet dog?

Also, how do you verify accuracy for something non-notable? If someone edits the David Bowie page to say that he had a sex change in 1982, it's very easy to verify that this isn't true, because there's plenty of independent news coverage of his life as a man after that date. But if someone edits the page for my band 999 Megabytes, and says the same thing about our lead singer, then there's no way for other contributors to check if it's true or not. And if you take accuracy on trust, then the whole Wikipedia idea quickly falls apart

EDIT: Typo

And like usual Koft is among those who are trying to get it deleted.
This guy must seriously have some mental issues, as he has done this with several other Amiga releated projects as well, like for example wikipedia page for hollywood.

Yeah, it's not the first time, and perhaps not the last time either...

@all

If anyone knows a good 3rd-party reference then please post the link.

Even though it got nearly every other hobby platform on there?
That would pretty hypocritical...

Removing Amiga related project info would just be pure censorship.

In my opinion problem is exactly with that "Amiga related project".

Even worse the article is terrible. It could just talk about Gunnar making coffee at the work but the coffee machine was broken and he had to order a repair guy. There is so much useless information in that article.

"The hardware language chosen is the proprietary Altera hardware description language while the 68k-softcore is developed in VHDL."

Thanks, I could not live anymore without knowing this.

i dont care one way or the other, and as it seems the natami team doesnt do as much. most genuinely interested know about it already, and the article in its current form wouldnt do any much good. if and when natami is out it might become an issue-

What? There's more than 666 people reading Wikipedia? Can't be.

Went to the edit page and couldn't find any discussion on deletion even though the front page says it's been nominated for deletion.

Is the discussion hidden somewhere? Or can you just delete a project without discussion?

I voted "delete" in the AfD discussion because the article doesn't meet Wikipedia's policy regarding notability. The fact that I'm an amiga nut and think the Natami project is cool and hope to see it succeed is irrelevant. The discussion in the AfD section covers what exactly makes the article non-compliant per Wikipedia policy but I don't see any serious effort to rectify those concerns. Instead what has happened is a bunch of people have voted "keep" based on emotional appeals. Perhaps instead of accusing other folks of being mentally ill you could spend some time hunting down proper citations to help bring the article in compliance.

A while back I nominated Hollywood (programming language) for AfD because of it's listing as a "programming language". My reason for that is I don't see how bundling lua with a set of useful libraries and an IDE comprises it's own entry as a new language in the list of programming languages on wikipedia. That torqued a few folks around here because, how dare I do such a thing, after all only a real jerk would AfD something amiga related, quality of Wikipedia be damned. If I bundled gcc, a set of specialised libraries, a custom IDE and called it KoftLang, would anybody here support me having it listed on Wikipedia as a new and notable programming language? Of course not.

I have nothing against either one of these projects, in fact I think they're cool and I hope they continue to reach greater and higher milestones. But this has nothing to do with my interactions on Wikipedia. I refuse to let my biases guide my decisions when contributing to the Wikipedia project. Wikipedia is far to useful of a resource to urinate in that pool.

@koft

I totally agree.

The criterion for inclusion is not how cool something is, it's notability. And neither Hollywood nor Natami are notable outside this little community (Natami might be when it exists).

Guys - just because koft cares about Amiga doesn't mean he can't care about Wikipedia too.

Well this must be a first, I agree with Wawa.

Ultimately the Natami project will be judged by what it brings to the community not by a mere Wikipedia entry. I doubt it will bother the Natami team one bit. If it proves successful then in the future it may well warrant such an entry, but for now the team will be focussing on realising their 'dream' machine.

But then there is alot of other projects and wikipedia sites that should be deleted.

Agreed! But because there's so many articles on Wikipedia, you only tend to notice the ones linked to topics you care about.
