AmigaOne articles on Wikipedia vandalised

It is really sad to see some personality promoting his views in a wicked way.

Non logged user with IP adress 78.8.101.199 has several times altered both AmigaOne and AmigaOne X1000 articles on Wikipedia:

1) In summary of both articles he changed word "computer" (or series of computers) to Amiga. This was reverted several times by many other (logged in) users to original state. He was not even satisfied by my proposed wording "Amiga branded computer". I´m opposing use of the word "Amiga" in the summary because it possess much more meanings than plain word "computer" - meanings that could be misleading.

2) He removed all references to Teron boards (nothing wrong with that) in way that he badly damaged table of models. When I corrected this table (without any references to the Teron boards), he changed it back to broken state.

3) He removed important parts of AmigaOne history - he probably doesn´t agree that AmigaOS 4 for AmigaOne was not available until 2004. Strange.

I post my rant here, because he is probably devoted OS4 user and I would like to discuss his opinions with him - unfortunatelly he doesn´t use pages for discussion on Wikipedia. Your opinions concerning the factual state of both articles are also welcome.

Putting aside philosophical interpretations of 'what is an Amiga', imho it is factually incorrect to state that these are 'Amiga branded', since this trademark was never used in relation to this hardware.

In summary:
Pre-settlement: In the original 'agreements' the brand 'Amiga' was never ascribed - only AmigaOne.
Post-settlement: products cannot be branded 'Amiga' since this trademark is not included in the settlement agreement.

Amiga Inc retains control of the trademark 'Amiga', hence the confusing situation where Amiga(x86, no AmigaOS), AmigaOne(PPC, with AmigaOS) etc.

Honestly though, I don't really care that much. I wish you luck in resolving this amicably though.

@Boot_WB

I think AmigaOne is Amiga brand (or brand created by Amiga), so I used Amiga branded.

I would also rather use plain word "computer", using "Amiga branded" was only (unsuccessful) attempt to satisfy both sides.

AmigaOne was an Eyetech product, not an Amiga Inc one so I guess you can't say it's "Amiga branded" but you can say it's "an Amiga computer" because it runs AmigaOS.

Original AmigaOne idea (in 2000!) was series of computers (x86, PowerPC etc.) for AmigaDE. Only one licence (Eyetech) was ever realised. So it is really "Amiga brand". I´m cautious to call it "Amiga computer", runing AmigaOS is not enough (SAM is not "Amiga computer", only "AmigaOS compatible"). Using plain word "Amiga" would open endless discussusions what is and what is not Amiga - really not something that should be in encyclopedia.

Can't you lock wikipedia article? IIRC this was done to MorphOS article years ago when it was continuously vandalised.

I never understood why all those problems about the definition of Amiga computer arise.

Besides the original Classic Amiga, I would call Amiga every computers specifically made to run AmigaOS natively and/or licensed for that purpose.

Of course those new boards (eg. the A1 series) can also run alternative OSes, like The Amiga4000 could/can run Linux or MOS or as far as I understood AROS too in the next future.

why am I posting this? Oh yeah, the fora seems so quite lately..

Hi, I've taken a look. You probably won't like it, but Wiki is meant to be Encyclopaedic whether we like the current Amiga brand owner or not. Which I assume is still Amiga Inc.

Right, no place for religious propaganda and rewritting of history.

Edit: Thank you for little rewording of the A1-X1000 article, it is better now. However, that "spam bot" changes these articles every hour (20 changes in last 2 days).

Another classic:

Quote:
The full version of OS4 was released in early 2007 for AmigaOne computers only

Which date are they referring to as "early 2007" then...Final that was released in December, 2006, or the July update which was released 3rd quarter 2007?

Didn't we just go through this with multiple individuals altering multiple Commodore wikis? Sheesh.

Yes, really sad. However, this particular individual thinks he helps the OS4/AmigaOne cause - he can´t be more wrong.

The AmigaOne article is once again backly in need of updating if you can find the time (or delegate access).

Probably because Amiga's father died just before Amiga itself and then its stepfather Commddore kicked the bucket leaving others to try and rebirth Amiga in some kind of mass adoptton of there own ideas. Hows that?

In my mind there is only one true Amiga. It can have 24-bit gfx. It has 8-bit sound. It has customs chips reachable at $DFF000. It has a blitter, a copper and some CIAs.

I know the term Classic Amiga gets thrown around a lot but really a Classic Amiga is an A1000 and a modern Amiga is an A1200. Anything these else is just inspired. And not usually by much.

Does Wikipedia have people disputing what a Mac is? The original was 68K. Then they made PowerMac from PPC. And now the Intel Mac. Is that a real Mac? I dispute a PC inside a white box looking like a Mac is a real Mac. After all, did Apple design it? Does it have Apple firmware?

I certainly dispute a machine with Amiga stamped on the outside is a real Amiga. Especially when it is disputable the Commodore company producing it is the real Commodore. And also when it runs Windows without an emulator, Big sign!

That IP address appears to originate from Germany (possibly Berlin) :

So you may have better luck getting this guy's attention by posting on a German site?

Who locked it? (And is there any way to get it unlocked?)

EDIT: Aargh, Boot_WB necroed an ancient thread. I wish people would either not do that, or be much clearer that they did it.

Just glancing at it today. I find it still lacking and inaccurate.
