@X1000 team

Despite the inevitable naysayers you have made it across the finish line.

Excellent news and congratulations to all involved.

Heh, the best part was the PA6T going in, a $500 part.

@sundown

Why would AmigaKit be involved with the distribution of the developer boards to the beta-test team?

I would have thought that they would have been sent to the offices of A-Eon, or Hyperion in bulk shipment and then repackaged individually for shipping to each beta-tester that has paid their money to be part of that program.

I guess one explanation could be that AmigaKit is going to be responsible for assembling the Nemo boards into complete systems for A-Eon for the consumers to buy after the beta-testing is completed, so they have decided to send all manufactured boards to AmigaKit for storage until that time and AmigaKit has agreed to ship out the developer boards to the beta-testers for A-Eon as part of their agreement.

@amigadave

Amigakit will sell complete beta systems if a beta tester wants that or just some of the parts needed with the bd. Amigakit will also distribute the public version when it's released.

Matt is the logical choice to do this, as he is all set up & a-eon/Hyperion aren't.

@sundown

Yes, see my edited post.

I am glad that Matthew & company were chosen, as they are good people and will do their best to provide good assembly and purchasing of related parts at reasonable prices.

Plus it is good to see additional work go to one of our best remaining Amiga retailers, to help them make some money and stay in business.

What offices? You think there is someone sitting in an office answering the phone and fondling brand new boards shipped from Varisys? I'll tell you Amiga is small business where you dont need offices and you dont even want one.

@itix

You have a point there. I would guess that Trevor's home is the only A-Eon office that they could be shipped to, if they were not being shipped to Matthew Leaman's home (the office for AmigaKit) instead.

And I think someone mentioned Trevor is located in New Zealand making it even more sensible to have a partner in England.

congratulations to all involved!
...but in contrast to the A-Eon newsletter Hyperion blog is still silent concerning AmigaOS 4.2

EDIT: I thought it will be something more about the system than info from the 'update 3 status report'

From A-EON update:

In other good news Steven Solie, the AmigaOS Development Team Leader, has confirmed that AmigaOS4.2, the latest version of the Amiga Operating System will be released with the AmigaOne X1000.

I'm sure they could get someone willing to take that job very cheaply :D

How does the machine work for big chips? I can imagine that it heats little parts as it holds them, but what about big chips?

It looks as though the carrier thing picks up a big chip, holds it over the heater until it is hot enough, then plonks it on the board. But is the board heated, or does it depend on the component being hot enough to melt the tinning on the board?

@tonyw

the board is always pre-heated and if you look carefully, the picker pass and hangs from the flux pot to the IR heater, then quickly to the target place.

amazing, don't you?

@amigadave

I don't think it would be sensible/practical to store stock and assemble systems at our homes

We have our registered office and Industrial Units that we operate the business from.

@itix
You need benches and specialist equipment (rework stations, oscilliscopes, soldering stations) for assembling computers and repairing them. All this takes space.

In addition, we stock 1,060 different Amiga parts and products which needs a large storage space: every part has a stock location and separate tray so we can locate it quickly.

We also need office space for picking and packing customer orders. Packing material (boxes, bubble wrap, bags and envelopes) take a lot of room.

I don't think my family would allow me to invade the house full of stock.

When he said exactly this, it means the beta testers won't get their Nemo boards with AOS4.2, because they don't get a A1X1K.

---

About the Nemo boards: It seems as if A-Eon have finally managed a production. It came late, we will see if this board is without major errors and if it works with full speed.

@Arko

So to make sure I understand this. . . The beta testers are going to beta test something other then what we will be getting? What would be the point of that?
