@Hyperionmp

Not knowing all the specs but I guess for me it would be a nice way to re-enter. I've owned a couple of classic big-boxes and to be honest, they remained bog standard for quite a while. Only when I got employed a few extra's got thrown in. But could I have lived without them? Yes I could. So I reckon it would not be much different with the netbook.

For the start of googling

http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=powerpc+netbook&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

http://dev.emcelettronica.com/china-freescale-power-architecture-first-netbook-limeos
http://infotainmentxone.blogspot.com/2010/05/vodacom-linkbook-powerpc-netbook.html
http://liliputing.com/2010/05/linkbook-9-inch-netbook-with-a-powerpc-processor.html
http://www.linkbook.co.za/

http://www.androidandtablets.com/2011/04/linkbook-netbook-runs-on-freescale-powerpc-processor/

Or something new fromIBM? Something that uses the POWER core (like PA6T), instead of PowerPC core ??? http://liliputing.com/2009/04/ibm-plans-to-build-an-atom-rivaling-netbook-cpu.html

Anyway... I bet it will perform roughly like efika on hand. http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC5121e&tid=Apr

OTOH, I am somewhat skeptical.. Given the price/specs of 440/460/x1000, I am really afraid that this is gonna be an extremely underpowered machine (whoever has seen Efika in action can get my point).

It's a netbook. They are not designed to be fast. If you want power, buy a desktop machine.

It'll be faster than the Classic PPC accelerators, which NetSurf at least runs fine on (I'm told).

Laptop... 300-500 US... OS4.1 included.... ! Christmas came early!

This seems like a dream!

This is the first piece of hardware that I can practically think about buying, a good price, it would actually be useful, and regarding battery life, the CPU specs are perfect for laptop... battery life should be as good or better than x86 netbook! I can see this as a nice earner for the HW manafacturer and Hyperion.

If they got WiFi driver working this could be even better...! ncafferkey where are you...

Bar X1000 shipping news, the best Amiga news all year and maybe for a long long while...!

Edit: Surely this has to be the LimeBook ? Or a customised version...

@Chris_Y

Well, netbook might be called a dual core atom at 1.66Ghz (that falls into the same price category that was hinted, though it isn't ppc based) and the LimePC with its 400Mhz cpu (which is ppc).

It's already done. From Hyperion (earlier in this thread):

AmigaOS is already running on the device.

This is great news. I just hope it will be at least around 800GHz, else it will for sure be underpowered.

I like the pricetag but I would have been prepared to pay 3 times that price for the right specs.

I hope it won't be underpowered. If it's simply a LimePC with an upgraded screen I might pass, even my G4@933 feels slow sometimes. I don't ask for X1000 performance but SAM performance really should be the minimum now IMO.

I think people should look at AOS4 performance on Classic PPC Amigas to understand the performance of the coming netbook.

I hope it will have at least 512M of RAM, even though if the CPU is this:
http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC5121e&tid=Apr

Also Efika ( http://www.genesi-usa.com/products/efika/5200b ) users should be able to tell how usable the netbook will be.

@-Sam-

AmigaOS is running, but "drivers" in this context means the most important, yet not-required-for-booting pieces (a netbook would have such hardware). So the _porting work_ is not yet done.

I see. Hopefully the release doesn't drag on too much then.

If I could purchase a machine now and some of the funds go towards Amiga development then I would.

Of course this would mean revealing the hardware specs and where to purchase.
