What? Where?
To me it seems like Flash is stronger than ever, especially in mobile apps on all mobile platforms, but also desktop.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplatform/articles/recent-updates.html
I often get the feeling that some people really hasn't got a clue about what Flash is (and what it's not). Clue: it's not a video/youtube player or commercial container on web pages... |

Maybe it's time you update your web browser :) Flash has been deactivated in most of them for quite some time now...

Flash is dead today, no new website is developed today with it. It does not work on smartphones who are very important now for websites. |

Again, I'm not talking about plugins for webpages. And that's what your linked article is about. Who uses Flash for that today anyway?
I was talking about Flash in stand-alone mobile (and desktop) apps, and there Flash is really big, and I have not seen any signs of Adobe dropping their commitment there, rather the opposite.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_AIR
Flash and ActionScript 3 is a really good platform, as easy to develop for as it is powerful. Bytecode is really compact. It's easy to understand why so many games and apps are developed in the Flash/AIR framework.
So, no. Not dead!

Did Adobe not announce recently that development will be stopped?
Ah I read end of Flash Player, not end of flash
ok you could be right even though I think there are lots of alternatives now, Flash is not needed |

Seriously? That's not my experience. When ever I am using a PPC machine on the net I tend to come across some site that needs flash. Yes, for the most part, it is a video player embedded on site, so the old fashioned flash video problem hasn't gone away. I tend to get an error that I need to update my flash player or install flash. Using my phone or a PC works as usual.
Oh wait, you said new websites. Oh ok I got ya, so all the old websites which make up the largest percentage of the net still use flash. |

new websites are mostly developed to be useful for smartphones and tablets and those do not use Flash anymore. Even for playing video Flash is no longer needed. So yes Flash is dead on web not meaning that there are no sites left using it. |

Was this ever released? What is it called?

See the last entry in this wiki table (NGFS). The new filesystem is currently distributed with OS4.1FE for the Cyrus and the Tabor boards, so it's not widely available yet but it does exist.

| Flash has got more and more of a resource hog over the years it is now a joke that the cpu can be working over time when playing any flash content in a web browser R.I.P flash . To the wonderfully programmers out there in amiga land bring us a good HTML5 browser. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

I wonder what can replace it? I mean, Flash is good at adventure games, or interactive media. Can HTML5 actually replicate this? Yes I know HTML with the scripts and CSS does a lot but for some reason that wasn't good enough so Flash was used for point and click stuff and Scala meddia type stuff in a browser. |

HTML5 at least regarding webpages can replace Flash completely
Also Flash is no longer supported on smartphones and more than half of all internet activity today is based on smartphones
And Flash always was and is buggy, a serious security threat. And support of flash is announced to be dropped |

Flash died before Amiga support could happen.
I wonder if the modern World Wide Web will be forgotten before a decent Amiga browser can be compiled. :) Last edited by Lazi on 14-May-2018 at 07:07 PM.

There was some basic support in Voyager and later iBrowse. I think the support in Voyager was adequate for the content of the day but it was very unstable. By the time iBrowse got support it was pretty much irrelevant for content out there.
So there was some Flash support it was just either crappy or not useful. |

| Happy birthday, thread - you're all grown up now! On this day one decade ago, the popular Danish streaming software Spotify was declared a go. To put it it in perspective, that's longer than Commodore's custody of the Amiga. In fact, since this thread was started the home planet has seen some strange stuff happen:
• Japan had a major earthquake and a tsunami to boot. • Famous actor Charlie Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men. • Game Of Thrones premiered - and ran its course. • Xi Jinping was "elected" president. • The planet Neptune completed its first orbit since it was discovered in 1846. • India and Bangladesh signed a pact to end their 40-year border demarcation dispute. • Mojang Studios released the blockbuster video game Minecraft. • Vladimir Putin was "elected" president. • Curiosity, the Mars Science Laboratory mission's rover, successfully landed on Mars. • The unmanned Mars Orbiter Mission was launched by India from its launchpad in Sriharikota. • Russia formally annexed Crimea after President Vladimir Putin signed a bill. • Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed in eastern Ukraine after being shot down by a missile. • First observation of gravitational waves: Gravitational waves were detected. • NASA announced that liquid water was found on Mars. • SpaceX lands an unmanned Falcon 9 rocket. • The World Health Organization announced an outbreak of the Zika virus. • Montenegro joined NATO as the 29th member. • UK citizens "agreed" to leave the EU, thinking Britain will do better as a budding superpower. • Russian presidential election Vladimir Putin was "elected" for a fourth term. • Scientists reported a subglacial lake on Mars, 1.5 km below the southern polar cap. • A major fire engulfed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. • The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. • Supporters of Donald Trump attacked the United States Capitol.
Oh, and of course, the developers at Spotify have been in possession of an Amiga running Release 4.1 for 120 months. It can be argued that it's a lot of time for a development project, but that's not saying it's enough time - which is why AmigaWorld.net users are discussing if Spotify is a go in this thread.
And while they do, let's all give this thread a heartfelt hip, hip hooray! Last edited by Petah on 01-Feb-2022 at 05:39 PM. Last edited by Petah on 01-Feb-2022 at 05:38 PM.
