@all
please try Cinnamon Writer which supports docx and give feedback!
This way Claus stays motivated ; ) He deserves it.

Reopening an old topic here, but was looking for some info and came across the IntuitionBase article here: http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=amigawriter

I am trying AmigaWriter after having not used since the early 2000s. Seems to work okay with Alinea's newer wizard.library installed apart from settings windows which are graphically corrupted on OS4.1 FE unlike in the IntuitionBase screen grab.

Anyone know a solution to this?

@phoenixkonsole

I'd like to try it but it's unusable on the X1000. Just freezes instantly. I wonder if this is due to the X1000 kernel exhibiting buggy behaviour.

@dan.hutch

What theme are you running under AmigaOS 4.1 FE as I have found some themes downloaded from sites like Amiga Look (aqua theme for example) can cause issues with some programs where windows are not displayed properly or you are missing some context menus.

@Hypex

AmigaWriter 2.20 works with AmigaOS 4.1. Final Edition Update 1 on Sam440ep, Pegasos II and X1000 here - the programs prefs work as expected. This shot is from today from my X1000:

https://www.ruthe.info/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/aw_screen_low.png

General remarks:

- Do *not* use the PPC version of AmigaWriter, only the 68k variant.
- The included ScreenManager is often the culprit - i.e. it crashes when a (former) screenmode isn't available anymore. It's crucial to set i.e. the "AmigaWriterScreen" to an existing screenmode.
- Only use 16Bit modes!
- Be sure you set the AmigaWriterScreen in SYS:Prefs/Screens to an non-Composition screen.

With this prerequisites it works here on all above mentioned systems. By the way: As a general rule you should *always* set screens for "old" 68k software to non-compsition screens with the Screens prefs program. And it saves sometimes precious graphics card memory as well (important for my Sam440ep).

@cha05e90

Good advice. I used to have a screen set for Wordworth but I can't rememnber how to do it again. On my X1000 with FE I get a corrupted palette so just gave up trying to fix it.

BTW I was talking about Cinnamon Writer freezing.

@Hypex

Oops, you're right.

The convenient approach to the "Screens" prefs is that you can copy a known working screenmode and use it all over again. I sat up two screen definitions, one with and one without composition. So any "new" software with an own screen is just a matter of copying the definition and altering the screen name. Voila.

@cha05e90

Thanks for the tip managed to setup a seperate screen for AmigaWriter without compositing, but I still get the same result as running on Workbench. All the text is missing from the settings menu.

Any ideas?

@cha05e90

Working now, updated from 2.0 to 2.2 and setup a seperate screen.

Where are the toolbar icons from in your grab? Look much nicer than the default ones I've got.
